Guest access Advancetown location: There is lots to explore in this forgotten little corner of the world, dating back to as early as when the new-Australian settlers were advancing north by horse back into Queensland, the township of ‘Old’ Advancetown was built on the banks of the Nerang River as the logging industry boomed. The township is today submerged under Advancetown Lake, which was created by Hinze Dam, the primary water source of the Gold Coast. Hence the 'town' in its namesake is no longer relative. To this day, Sunday drivers often stop and ask where they can find the town centre of Advancetown. Less than 5 mins away the Hinze Dam / Advancetown Lake itself is a must visit when staying with us, you can walk or cycle across the dam wall, stop for lunch at the View Café, wander the gardens and take in the scenery. Make use of the public BBQ and Picnic facilities or borrow our Kayak and go for a paddle or spot of fishing*. For Hikes and Bush Walks, we suggest Googling nearby areas such as Lamington National Park, Nerang State Forest, Binna Burra, Beechmont, Canungra, Natural Bridge, Numinbah Valley and Springbrook. Yowie sightings in the area date back as far as the early settlers, in the 1980's and 1990's Advancetown was the most popular place to sight or stake-out a Yowie. Back then the local Advancetown Hotel launched the Yowie Burger and Sunday sessions, where many Yowie yarns were spun over a beer or two. Since that time many locals and visitors who have genuinely reported encountering a Yowie were ridiculed and thus reporting has become rare. Tangara Dulili hosts are happy to share some of these fascinating stories. The most genuine collated archived accounts can be explored on the Australian Yowie Research website: yowie hunters dot com dot au then search Advancetown or Gold Coast for the latest encounters, most recent was in 2018 near Hinze Dam. Just around the corner is the Advancetown Hotel/Pub, relocated to the current site when the dam was built in 1976. The Advancetown Hotel boast’s indoor/outdoor bars, a swimming pool, great food, cold drinks and the weekend Yowie markets. Free Live Music every Sunday in a family friendly atmosphere. The Bistro offers a mouth-watering menu catering to everyone in the family including vegetarian and children’s meals. Check out The Sportsman’s Bar & Dining for a delicious counter lunch where they bring you the best in televised sport, TAB facilities and KENO for your enjoyment. Whilst the hotel is a short walking distance, we recommend catching the courtesy bus home up the hill after a few bevies. If wine tasting is your thing, we are just a stone’s throw away is the ‘Award Winning’ Mount Nathan Winery offering daily wine tours, tastings, and cellar door sales. We are fairly central here, local shops include Coles, Aldi, Woolies, BWS & Dan’s at Nerang, or for a shopping day out you can’t miss Westfield at Helensvale (17-minute drive) and Robina Town Centre (20-minute drive) Takeaway Offerings include; Thai, Indian, Fish & Chips, Pizza, Sushi and Kabab’s. Being situated in a rural/bush setting, own reliable transport is essential. Owners and permanent tenants also reside on the property, therefore noise must be kept to a minimum at all times. The land is sloped, terraced with dams, and without safety fencing. Hence no children policy, it's from a safety and noise perspective. This rental is NOT suitable for persons that require mobility assistance due to graveled and uneven surfaces, multiple levels, meandering pathways, rock-formed garden steps, and 5 steps to enter and exit. Resident Chocolate Labrador is very social and friendly, Cat can be inquisitive.
