The Getaway: "The Place to Stay"- Selected by PureTravel Digital Magazine Cozy, Cosmopolitan & by the Coast Your perfect two-bedroom, art-filled, post-hike escape with handcrafted wood accents, jetted tub, wood stove and cocktail cart. And we can't fib, we are delighted to be singled out as the cozy, oh-so-charming pick for accommodations in the article "The Secret Charm of California's Northernmost Escape." Strolling distance to the beach, gated backyard, fire pit, blanket, bbq to enjoy! The Getaway is designed to be your eclectic, comfortable and original refuge after a day of beach and hiking. Located in town and close to the beach. Completely renovated with redwood siding, lots of light, a modern wood stove, vaulted cedar ceilings and local wood touches (think elevated cocktail counter, wood beams and hand-laid bamboo flooring) this 2 bedroom + den home is waiting for you. The art-tiled bathroom has a jetted deep soaking tub. The backyard is completely enclosed with fire pit and chairs. A propane BBQ can be wheeled out to the front flagstone patio area or the enclosed back yard. A two-car driveway provides protected parking. We have an internet equipped 42 in TV, due to limited access there are not over the air channels. Netflix, YouTube and other internet channels are available. We offer a coffee bar with fresh beans for grinding and an espresso machine. Washer and dryer available for your use on premise. A ceiling-mounted ductless provides heat and A/C plus cadet heaters in each room so you can finetune your comfort. It's about a 5 minute walk to the beach and great sunsets and a 15 minute drive to the redwoods. And yes, that is a Rock Em, Sock Em Robots game you saw in the den (which will feature a work station and chair for your remote working must-do's). A cocktail cart will keep your martini glasses ready, just bring your beverage fixings. A turntable and small collection of vintage vinyl is also available for your listening pleasure (or you can dance, we'll never tell!) Please let us know if you have any questions. There is a wide two car drive way for parking. We are available by phone and text anytime you need us. We also have a wonderful cleaning and first-response team in town led by Virginia or myself (Pam) in the event of any needs. Crescent City is an old, long-established beach and timber town with quite a history. The Getaway is located in the Berryessa neighborhood of town on the north/western edge of the city limits a short distance to the ocean and was built in the 1950's, completely renovated in 2021. You are surrounded by wonderful families, however - this is a funky little beach town with a cast of characters. You will see lovely little homes and flower gardens next to not-so-groomed houses (probably because the owners are Out Fishing). The Getaway is located on a local street. You will have some car noise from time to time and workdays there will be a bit more traffic than on weekends. On some occasions, you may hear a seal barking (yes the seals in the harbor do have parties sometimes..) or the fog horn at the harbor entrance. In general, these noises are not loud or distracting and you will not hear then in the house. Overall the town is fairly quiet (except for July 4th and really that whole month; folks love their fireworks here!). If you walk straight down Condor going West (about 1,000 feet), you will come to Pebble Beach drive. If you head south you'll go towards the Harbor and Brother Jonathan park and lighthouse. North will take you along a the road to various benches and beach access points - and some lovely sunrises and sunsets. There is bus service and taxis if needed. There's so many beautiful hikes and vista points we can't do it all justice in just a couple of paragraphs, but do visit the Visitor Center in town or look up the website "Visit Del Norte County | Crescent City" for LOTS of ideas. The beaches are South Beach, "Center" Pebble Beach, and North Beach (Point St George). South beach is flat wide sand, Center Pebble beaches are rocky/sandy, and North Beach is long wide sand. There are some really fun restaurants in town, too. Seaquake is a super popular brewpub with great pizza, sandwiches, fish & chips and hamburgers. Kin Khao has GREAT Thai food, Port 'o Pints is fantastic for a cozy brewpub and quick pint of award-winning beer with the locals. The harbor features The Chart Room (on the water, cozy/eclectic with lots of seals) Schmidts (the jambalaya and po' boys!) and Fisherman's - a local favorite for delicious, downhome, casual dining. Also don't miss Farmer's Markets by the Harbor on Saturdays - and at the Fairgrounds as well (seasonal). There is an Owners Unit on the back of the house - we may be there from time to time doing some property care...but you won't really see or hear us at all! :-)
