This 3 bed / 2 bath on 6 acres is convenient to Chimney Rock (10 mins), Lake Lure (15 mins), Black Mountain (20 mins), Hendersonville (30 mins), and Asheville (30 mins). Hiking enthusiasts, however, need only walk out the front door, across the creekside bridge, and up the mountain. Any of the dead-end gravel roads will treat you to long range views of beautiful mountain vistas. Those with interest in historic homes may prefer to stay put and enjoy the cabin, which is the oldest on the mountain. ****UPDATE HIGH SPEED FIBER INTERNET INSTALLED 12/12/2022***The cabin was built in the 1890s and lovingly restored by Ed and Charleen Dowling, of Dowling Cabins. Take note of the original stairs at the front of the cabin before moving to the more easily manageable stone pathway alongside a mountain stream. In the morning, enjoy your breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen or sip coffee while enjoying the front porch rocking chairs or side yard swing. The spacious downstairs common area features a television with movie collection, wood burning fireplace, and plenty of sleeping room for the sofa bed pullout and twin size folding mattress. However, though the cabin can accommodate five with sleeping space, it functions best as a romantic getaway. The upstairs bedroom, accessible via the original staircase, features a king bed and adjoining bathroom with jacuzzi tub. There is an additional full bathroom with shower on the first floor. *Tall guest need to be aware of the 6'6" quirky old ceiling in the living room.* Enjoy the water in this cabin, which is fresh mountain spring water! We have a spring head up the mountain from which we filter the water in the house. My husband and I have joked that we should bottle and sell it! Something really special about the cabin is time is altered there. The way the cabin is tucked in next to the side of the mountain, the sun sets earlier and rises later, giving you a sensation of rest you experience no where else. **Please note when packing for your cabin stay: there are steep stairs that you must climb both outside to reach the cabin and inside to reach the second story. ** Parking is by the road. Follow the rocky stairs up to the house. This cabin is convenient to all that Western NC has to offer: tubing, rafting, kayaking; apple picking; hiking, mountain climbing; antiquing; and scenic motoring/cycling. Visit Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock Park, Lake Lure (via pontoon boat tour), the Blue Ridge Parkway, and more! Parking is next to the road, with a stair filled path up to the house. (1) Please be aware the this is a true 1890s cabin experience. You will likely not have adequate cell service; we are not connected to Wifi; and although we have a television and dvd collection, we are disconnected from even local stations. Fortunately, there is a coffee shop / internet cafe in nearby Chimney Rock village. (2) Obviously, we love our historic cabin, although please be aware that it is just that: a very old home, with very old home quirks (e.g., the stairs leading to the second story are narrow and steep; ceilings are low; etc.). If the cabin does not meet your needs or expectations, we offer a generous cancellation policy and will not only issue a full refund (sans the service fee over which we have no control) but will also help you find accommodations at a nearby hotel. We do not, however, issue refunds after full stays.
