Close to the ocean and still near the verdant mountain, Cottage Junior is a great place to spend some time relaxing after a good adventure exploring Madeira Island. It is a typical Madeiran stone cottage, carefully and eco-friendly renovated with comfortable living areas, with its own private garden and a wide ocean view. The space Cottage Junior belongs to Calhau Grande, a group of 8 typical self-catering cottages in Arco da Calheta with breath-taking panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. It is a simple and genuine haven for those looking for a quiet escape and a real experience of Madeira Island’s lifestyle. Deployed on private terraces, the rustic oceanfront cottages, which have been carefully and eco-friendly restored with love and care by our Family Gouveia, suit the natural environment and are surrounded by tropical gardens. You can feel the smell of the flowers, relax by the swimming pool, enjoy wonderful sunsets and discover our agricultural land with fruit trees, vegetables and aromatic herbs. It is a familiar, romantic and peaceful place away from the stressful city living! Inside the property, there is a swimming pool, shared by the 8 cottages. If you like nature and sunbathing, Cottage Junior is a good option for you. The house is located right next to the swimming pool area, on the same level, but still has its own private space. This is an ample one-bedroom house with its own entrance, living space, kitchenette and bathroom. The separate bedroom can accommodate two persons in a double size bed (1,50m x 2,00m). There is another double bed, in the living area, that allows 2 children to stay. The house benefits from an excellent south-facing sun exposure and enjoys a colourful garden with flowers and fruits. In this exterior area, there is a private garden with barbecue, table and chairs for the exclusive use of the house. Here you can kick back, read or simply have your breakfast outside listing the sound of the birds and contemplating the immensity of the ocean. An experience you will never forget. Calhau Grande is the sharing result of our rural experience in Madeira. You are warmly invited to live it with us! Guest access Next to the property, on the exterior area, we have 6 free car parking spots on the way up to our property on a typical Madeiran sloped road (50 meters away from our main gate). For those who feel uncomfortable driving up, it is also possible to park on the free public parking places on the main road (about 100 meters away from our main gate). The cottage can be accessed by the interior of the property from the swimming pool area. There is a private entrance to the cottage. You'll have the cottage to yourself. All our cottages have its own private space and garden so that all guests can feel completely relaxed, in their own privacy, just like at home. Guests can also access all our common gardens, paths and swimming pool area. Other things to note Calhau Grande is located on a hill and comprises beautiful terraced gardens and balconies with great views. To enjoy this wide ocean view and to overcome the height differences, we have outdoor stairs and steps in the garden. Tip: travel light. Still, Junior is on the lowest level of the property, practically at the same level as the main gate of Calhau Grande. It is the house that needs the fewest steps to walk in.
