The Old Chaff Mill Retreat- “The Granary”

Nestled into the Sellicks foothills as they meet the ocean, amongst our organic/biodynamic Shiraz vineyard and almond grove, the Old Chaff Mill Retreat dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, when it provided grains and chaff to bullock teams as they hauled their mighty loads across the picturesque countryside. Gutted by fire a century ago, the building is now reborn: a unique, luxury accommodation experience, with a spectacular, architecturally-designed fitout celebrating its rich past. The space Perfect for that special occasion- babymoon, anniversary, proposal, elopement, or just to completely unwind; the building consists of two completely private, self-contained, double-storey luxury suites: “The Millery”, and “The Granary”. Both display rare historic artefacts, have super-comfortable king beds, fully equipped kitchens with European appliances, handcrafted Japanese artisan knives, complementary NBN wifi, smart TVs, and bathrooms complete with soaking tub for two and double rain-head showers. Electric vehicle chargers are in each suite’s private car park. Fluffy bathrobes, slippers and all linen are provided. Everything from towels to cutlery is the highest quality. This listing is for "The Granary”, which is approx 90 m2, and features a Juliette balcony as well as upstairs bathroom with views to die for over rolling vineyards clear to the Willunga ranges. Along with secret mortar wall inscriptions going back 150 years, this luxury suite has a beautiful glass cutout in the kitchen floor, revealing items discovered during the building’s recent restoration. Originally where grains and chaff were sorted and bagged, “The Granary” also has a unique, hand-crafted chaff chute adorned with century-old graffiti - now the pantry door. Relax into designer armchairs and lose yourself in amazing views over our organic almond grove and shiraz vineyard, with a complimentary nibble plate of farm produce and bottle of estate-grown biodynamic wine. Tumble into your king sized bed (separable into two king singles if required) for a night of peaceful sleep in complete, country silence, watch the sunrise over your Juliette balcony, then enjoy a delicious Continental breakfast (ingredients provided). For a relaxed morning in, full English breakfast provisions for two can also be provided, consisting of organic, free range farm eggs from our own chooks, gorgeous local smoked bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and croissants, for $30. Guest access Each suite is separated by lockable, soundproof double fire doors for complete privacy, which can be opened up for friends to have the run of the whole building. Phylloxera is a tiny insect that destroys vines from the roots up, and with no known treatment, is responsible for destroying some of Europe’s great vineyards. If you are arriving from interstate, especially from NSW or Victoria, please make sure your car tyres and shoes have been throughly cleaned. Please avoid wandering around the vineyard unaccompanied- we would be more than happy to give you a tour if you like.
