LOCATION - Find a variety of delicious eateries within a 5 -10-min drive from home in Sullivan and Franklin. Head to Tidal Falls Nature Preserve or enjoy another nearby hiking area. For a fun day trip, drive 40 minutes to Bar Harbor…. What is Tidal Falls? A reversing falls is located within Mt. Desert Narrows on the way to Taunton Bay between Hancock and Sullivan, and it certainly is one of the region's most unusual natural phenomena. Tidal Falls Preserve is a really nice place to stand beside the water and watch Mother Nature at her finest. Chances are that you'll see seals, blue heron, ducks and other wildlife dancing within the water and riding the flow. And yes, the Falls do "reverse" daily with the VERY STRONG TIDES! The best way to experience the falls is to watch them as the tide rises or falls, spending enough time to see the currents shift and swirl, the water level change, and the coming and going of wildlife. Maine’s reversing falls offer a dynamic exchange of land and sea, the forces of the moon pushing and pulling against bedrock and glacial gravel, every day, twice a day, always. Acadia's BEST KEPT SECRET - This home is located in the heart of the Schoodic Peninsula. There is a small quiet side of the park located adjacent to Winter Harbor called Schoodic Peninsula. This parcel of the park offers spectacular views of Mount Desert Island and is the “quiet side” of Acadia National Park. Almost all of Acadia National Park sits on Mount Desert Island and skirts the edges of island communities Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Mount Desert. The park’s protected lands also extend onto Schoodic Peninsula across Frenchman Bay to the east and several outer islands to the south, including Isle au Haut and the Cranberry Islands. The MDI portion of the park is divided in two: the east side & west side. The eastern side is nestled between Somes Sound to the west and Frenchman Bay to the east. All the most popular attractions are concentrated there, so it is the busiest part of the park. 27 mile Park Loop Road is the main drag. It’s a 3 to 4 hour drive that winds along the coastline, delivering near constant knockout ocean views and passing almost all the tourist hotspots. The main attractions on the east side are the extensive carriage road system, the island’s highest peak (Cadillac Mountain), & only 2 sandy beaches along with the most popular hiking trails and popovers at Jordan Pond House. It’s the most visited part of the park for a reason, but it’s not the only way to experience Acadia. The west side of the park is known as “the quiet side” since it receives significantly fewer visitors. There are no carriage roads so aside from that, it’s nearly identical to the east side. The hiking trails pass through the same lush forest onto open ridgelines and rugged peaks, but the lower foot traffic makes them feel more untamed. The coastline is a hair less spectacular, but it more than makes up for it when you have the whole view to yourself. Pet Friendly! There is a 10 x 15 dog pen keeping your pet safe while you are out having adventures. Air conditioned Private suite over the garage features one bedroom with full bed, one full bath, small living area and small kitchenette. Great "getaway" from the rest of the house!
