Chalet Cuckoo is a raccard (barn on stilts) constructed on a masonry base. Inside the raccard is a wood panelled double bedroom (160 cms bed) with a wardrobe, chair and heater - very romantic. In addition, there is a folding single bed in the bedroom, suitable for someone up to 1.7 meters or 80 kg and a double sofa bed living area. Other things to note To get to Ayer in Valais: • Either fly to Geneva, Milan Malpensa or Basel with Easyjet. Then hire a car (snow tyres or chains essential in winter, consider roof box) or take a train (to Sierre from Geneva Airport, Gallarate (near Milan Malpensa) or Basel Airport. From Sierre take a bus (CarPostal) or taxi (Taxi Anniviers –) to Ayer. • Or drive from the UK (8-10 hours from the channel ports). • Or take the train (London St Pancras – Paris-Sierre, 10 hours, Eurostar and TGV) to Sierre and bus (C. arPostal) or taxi (Taxi Anniviers –) to Ayer. Directions to Chalet Grouse, Cuckoo and Karma Zoura from Ayer will be sent to you when full payment has been received. Remember: European Health Insurance Card (available from the Post Office), travel insurance, ski insurance and check passports are in date – yes, it has happened! Things to do ...... The Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Observatory is worth a visit at all times of the year, its associated Planets Trails should be walked in summer. The Moiry Dam can be reached by public transport or car in the summer. Paragliding - tandem for a trial and on your own for the more experienced is possible all the year. Skiing/snowboarding at St Luc/Chandolin and Zinal/Grimentz is ten minutes away by car. Lower down the valley one can ski/snowboard at Vercorin, useful when it is snowing. Other winter activities include hiking, skating, sledging and various indoor activities including swimming, climbing, escape room, gym and an indoor park with an adventure area, Ninja Warriors, trampolines (big), battle beams, a play corner for over 18 months, bar and cafe; exclusive hire is available for parties e.g. birthdays. In summer many activities and public transport within the Val d'Anniviers are free with the Anniviers Libertee pass. For those who enjoy walking just exit the chalet and the mountains are yours. Lake Appitettaz (2 hours walk from Zinal) for a picnic or Hotel Weisshorn for a meal or stay the night (2 hours walk from the top of the St Luc Funicular or 3 hours from the chalet). For the family Foxtrail Dahn sounds amusing. Other summer activities on offer include biking, climbing including via ferratas, mountain carting/scootering, fishing, pétanque (bowls), mini-golf and bungee jumping.
