Description

Experience a secluded off the grid beach getaway in unique Smitswinkelbaai, bordering Cape Point Nature Reserve. Relax in this simple yet comfortable bungalow, where you can swim, hike in the nearby mountains and watch whales and dolphins from your deck. At night, enjoy the stars. Get immersed in nature, yet be within reach of the city. The space Smitswinkel Bay is a place for adventurous souls. No WiFi, no electricity and no road access. Yes no road! Parking is available behind a locked gate and then you are required to walk 20 minutes downhill along a mountain stream and through the fynbos to the bungalow. There’s a semi private beach where you can swim and snorkel in the famous kelp forests. If you have a fishing permit, you can harvest mussels and go fishing. The bungalow has views over the Indian Ocean as well as mountain views. It’s made up of 3 bedrooms which sleep 5 people. There are 2 communal areas that sleep an additional 3 people however please bear in mind that there is only one toilet. The bath is a small sits bath and there’s an outside low pressure hot water shower. Water is drinkable even though it can be the colour of rooibos tea at times. Please use water wisely. Please bring your own food and wood. There are no shops in the bay. There’s a solar system primarily used for the fridge and to charge phones. Please only charge phones during the day. Although it works well most of the time, be aware that over use and overcast weather can shut the system down. All garbage needs to be carried out. Hence many prefer to bring box wine and cans. It’s a lighter load. There is an additional fee of R200 per garbage bag if you’d like it carried out for you. Please leave the garbage bags in the house securely tied and notify us that they are there. Due to the difficult building conditions. The shack is not built to normal safely standards. Please be warned that the owners take no responsibility for any personal injury resulting from the way the shack is built. A visit is entirely at your own risk. By completing this booking, you agree to these conditions. Children between 6 months and 7 years are not advised. The open balconies make it too stressful for the parents. Please treat everything with respect as to replace or repair things at Smitswinkelbaai is a complicated and time consuming mission. Guest access Whole bungalow except for some locked cupboards and store room. Other things to note Baboons often frequent the area. They love to forage around this bungalow. Please let them do this however keep all windows and doors closed. The wooden shutters can be latched and still allow air in. It is illegal to throw anything at the baboons. Please notify myself or the baboon monitors if you need help. If baboons get into the bungalow it is very difficult to get them out. Splashing water on the baboons is the best method to get them out of the house. Guests will be responsible for any breakages and the extra cleaning required should they get in. Please bring all your devices fully charged. There is a solar powered fridge. There are some plug points but please use these ONLY during the day when the sun is out. Over using the plug points affects the fridge and can drain the battery’s which mean they need to be carried up the hill for recharging.
