The space Please read carefully before booking! We do not allow pets of any kind on the property. Under the guidelines of the ADA if you have a certified service animal, we will allow them, however we highly recommend booking a different property for the safety of your pet as our garden has endangered cactus and native plants highly toxic to animals. LAS SOMBRAS • SUITE 54 Welcome to Suite 54! Las Sombras Suite 54 is a vintage 1954 Mobiliner Hicks Travel Trailer entirely remodeled and rebuilt as a tasteful desert retreat in Presidio. To create a more airy and ample living space on the inside, the bathroom and kitchen have been removed from the trailer. For a more immersive experience of the desert way of life, we created an outdoor cooking and dining area, and built a separate bath house in the garden. Inside the Suite The bedroom has a queen size bed with a luxurious memory foam mattress, big fluffy pillows, a closet with hangers and shelves, 2 small bedside tables and reading lights. Soft linens are provided for the bed as well as pillows, extra throws and comforter, so that you can travel light and be cosy. The living area features a retro design couch and a large armchair and foot rest. A custom-made wooden bar hosts a small colorful retro fridge and a coffee station for that morning kick (Keurig). A mini-split AC unit cools off the trailer during these hot desert days and doubles as a heater for cooler weather. A wonderful selection of rare and out-of-print books about the desert, along with reading lights, board games, invite slow evenings inside. Beautiful arts and crafts from Mexico, antique shops, and local artists give Las Sombras Suite 54 its unique and colorful flair. The space is designed for calm evenings, reading, and rest. Your Private Outdoor Space Enjoy a lazy day out on the property, reading a book under the shade of the mesquite tree or cool off in your own 10ft long dipping pool (seasonal, please check dates with us). A few steps away from the trailer sits a brand new bathhouse with a custom Italian rain shower and a vintage double enamel sink. Organic cotton towels and organic shower products are provided for your comfort. The outdoor kitchen area sits under a large shade structure and is equipped with a concrete dining table and chairs, a concrete prep area, a large vintage enamel sink, a custom-made wood fire grill and a gas grill. To enjoy a night of cooking under the Milky Way, you will simply have to bring your own charcoal or fire wood. We highly recommend picking up groceries to fully take advantage of the setting, outdoor kitchen and wood fire grill. The entire property is fenced off so that you can enjoy total privacy. A unique desert stay in Presidio Guests are welcome to visit The Dreamers Gallery, our nearby art space and cultural hub, for coffee, exhibitions, and occasional live music during their stay. Practical details: Las Sombras • Suite 54 hosts a maximum of 2 guests. Please note the property is not suitable for children or pets. Private parking just outside the gates. Las Sombras is a quiet property intended for rest and reflection. Guest access Important information Las Sombras consists of two independent suites in vintage travel trailers with separate stand-alone spaces in a desert garden. Las Sombras Suite 47 is an Airstream from 1947, Las Sombras Suite 54 is a Mobiliner Hicks from 1954. Each trailer opens onto the shared courtyard and grounds, and has its own outdoor kitchen, shaded dining area, private bathroom within the double bathhouse, and a private entrance to the property. At the time, you will have the entire property to yourself as Las Sombras Suite 47 is not being rented. The dipping pool is functional year round. Other things to note _______________ Important Information LOCATION In the heart of downtown yet on a quiet street, you are steps away from the Saturday Food Market, restaurants, and coffee shop. Minutes away from the port of entry to the vibrant Mexican town of Ojinaga - make sure you bring your passport and spend a lovely afternoon in Mexico! 1 mile to the Ojinaga-Presidio International Bridge 10 miles to the entrance of the State Park 19 miles to Shafter 50 miles to Lajitas 59 miles to Marfa 62 miles to Terlingua PROPERTY RULES No firearm discharging allowed on the property. Rocks and plants are not to be moved under any circumstances . There are lots of cactii on the property, please do not touch them. They won't like it, and neither will you! We kindly ask that upon your leaving, you put everything back where you found it. Please clean your dishes and remove all trash and place it in the dumpster found in the parking area. Please be mindful of noise for our neighbors: quiet time starts at 9pm. UNDERSTANDING THE DESERT The Big Bend is a Desert and temperatures in the Summer can climb to well over 100 degrees. Keep in mind they can also go pretty low at night. Remember to always carry plenty of water. Hearing desert creatures at night is totally normal, that’s when they’re active the most because they too avoid the sun. Lights at night will attract moths, and water will attract bees during the day. VISITING BIG BEND Presidio and the entire Big Bend Area are Dark Sky Friendly and the 4th darkest sky in the world! This is why we get such great views of the Milky Way at night. Please help us keep it that way by keeping lights to a minimum at night! CANCELLATION BY GUESTS Please keep in mind the cancellation policy for this property is set on strict. It means we do not issue refunds beyond what is set by Airbnb Strict cancellation policy, and we do not make exceptions.
