Surrounded by the rainforest of Volcano and situated just outside of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, our cozy cottage offers a welcoming place for some rest and relaxation between adventures. Hale 'Alalā is named after the highly endangered hawaiian crow whose reintroduction efforts have been focused on the forests around Volcano. While there are no longer any Alalā living in the wild, you can see a pair of live Alalā just down the road at the Panaewa Zoo (free admission). You can find an excellent walkthrough video of the cottage here: https://youtu.be/RQ0uTCmc1Co The cottage sits about 3 miles “as the crow flies” from the volcano’s crater and the rainforest comes right up to the cottage which is barely visible from the road. It’s a delightful, private retreat whose location can have you inside the amazing Hawaii Volcanoes National Park within five minutes. This unique cottage has many thoughtful touches such as USB charging ports for your electronics, electric heated fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom, and a kitchen with all the utensils and appliances you should need for quick meals. Don’t just take our word for it, read our guest reviews! The bedroom has a queen sized bed and the living room has a queen sized sofa bed. There is also a loft in the house that is accessed by a wooden ladder. If you are traveling with a young child or children, please be sure that you will be able to control access to the ladder and loft for their safety. Guests have access to the entire cottage, laundry room, and grounds. Self check-in is handled via lockbox. Let yourself in and relax! We're always just a text or phone call away should you have any questions. Volcano residents cherish their peace and quiet, you'll mostly hear only birds while here. Please respect the neighbors by keeping noise to a minimum during your stay. The days are nice and cool this far up the mountain and nights can get chilly, so bring a jacket. Volcano Village is just across the highway should you want to grab a bite to eat or shop for something locally made to remind you of your trip. The Big Island has extremely limited bus service and few Uber and Lyft drivers, a rental car is a must.
