The Tower apartment is located in the main tower of the castle and has a private rooftop terrace. There are a good number of stairs in the Tower! DOLLARBEG CASTLE lies on the outskirts of Dollar in Clackmannanshire, the smallest county in Scotland. It is one of the 4 foothill villages of the Ochil Hills which are great for hiking. In the village you will find a good range of amenities, including shops, a well presented pub and even it's own museum. Castle Campbell, a wonderful place for walking is only 3 miles away with its wonderful scenery as you walk through Dollar Glen and see fantastic views of Dollar below. Just outside the village is the Japanese Garden (Cowden). You will also find ‘Do It Outdoors’ and ‘Lendrick Muir Outdoor Activity Centre’ close by (with loads of fun activities). Kinross is 12 miles away, where Mary Queen of Scots famously escaped from her prison at Lochleven Castle on 2 May 1568. The castle is situated on a small island in the middle of Loch Leven. Alloa Tower is 8 miles away and is one of the earliest and largest Scottish Tower Houses (run by National Trust for Scotland). The historic city of Stirling is only 12 miles away, with it’s famous Castle, old prison and Wallace Monument to visit. If you enjoy castles then why not have a day trip to Blair Castle in Blair Atholl, Scone Castle in Perth (once the crowning palace of Scottish Kings), or Glamis Castle in Angus, the childhood home of the Queen Mother. For a boat trip with a difference visit the Falkirk Wheel Visitor Centre (40 mins) and be transported from the Forth & Clyde canal to the Union canal over a 100 feet higher! Alva Glen and Gartmorn Dam Country Park are in close proximity and are great for walking. Loch Lomond is about an hour, with its visitor and sealife centre. There are also shops, cafes and boat trips. Roman history buffs will be interested in the stretch from the Firth of Forth to the Firth of Clyde. Here are the remains of the Antonine Wall, the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire ~ the best preserved length of which is at Bonnybridge. For motorsport enthusiasts the famous Knockhill Motorsport Centre is only 8 miles away, either for watching races or testing out your driving skills in classic/racing/rally cars. For golfers, visitors are welcome at the local traditional hillside Dollar Golf Club. There are also over 30 golf courses within an hour’s drive including Gleneagles (where there are many other activities such as shooting, falconry, horse riding to name just a few) and St Andrews. There is also a Tank Drive Challenge Centre and a Dry Ski Slope centre, both within a few miles of the property. For retail therapy there is of course Glasgow and Edinburgh, but closer to Dollar is Tillicoultry (10 mins), home of Sterling Mills outlet village and Sterling Furniture with its homestore, garden centre and restaurants.
