From mid July to early September, acres of lily pads bloom thousands of huge yellow flowers. He also has some good campfire stories. If you need something just let Roger or Sabina know. If we don’t answer indoors try hollering for us in the stables or in the pasture area. The city of Galena is a scenic six-mile drive or scenic bicycle ride away. Explore a secluded section of the Mississippi River and islands. There are numerous other nearby attractions such as a beautiful walk along River Road right in front of our property and numerous nearby nature trails. Canoes, kayaks, hiking, jogging or bicycling are great ways to get around the local area and see nature. The city of Galena is a short 10 minute drive away. A little longer if you ride a bicycle. We have plenty of free parking at the ranch. Galena city has a lot of attractions and events. Parking is free but Galena can get crowded on weekends, especially when they have special events. You may want to arrive early or plan to walk a few blocks to get to main street. There are some restaurants outside city center where parking is not a problem. Security Deposit: After booking our bunkhouse on Airbnb you will be sent a link to our Riverview Ranch and Resort confirmation process which will ask you to provide information, such as age of your kids. You will also be asked to pre-authorize a $500 security deposit within 24 hours of booking or 2 weeks prior to your arrival date. Your pre-authorization will allow our credit card management service to place a hold of $500 on your credit card one day prior to your arrival. If your party causes damage we may capture some or all of the security deposit. If no damage is caused the hold will be automatically released two days after your departure. If the security deposit is not timely pre-authorized we may cancel your booking at our discretion. Sniff and Greet: Our Dogs get excited when new people come so we ask that you allow them a short sniff and greet when you arrive. They are friendly but they often bark as they run up to strangers. Especially our very friendly German Shepard, Bessie, can be intimidating for people who are afraid of dogs. If someone is afraid of dogs in your group, please let me know and I'll keep tight controls of Bessie until that person is comfortable. It won't take long. Bessie loves to be petted. Nala, mini Dachshund, loves to play "gimmie that" and Pepper, yorkie mix, loves to be scratched. It is best to just relax and move slowly any time you meet a new dog. Once the dogs get your scent and you pet them, they will become your best buddies very quickly. Please don't feed any of the animals. In summer we attack mosquitos and flies aggressively. Even though we are close to the river, the mosquitos and gnats are not bad because we are in a clearing, and a lot of bug-eating swallows live here. In summer we recommend bringing bug spray anyway.
