Located within the lush jungles and wild coastline of eastern Hawai’i island, Kalani Retreat Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational retreat center and intentional community that provides a memorable opportunity to connect, learn and rejuvenate in a unique environment. Discover tropical fruit trees and gardens, participate in community classes such as yoga, dance, permaculture and art, or embrace wellness activities like massage that can be booked during your stay. Our accommodations are rustic and simple, “jungle-chic” as we like to say! Located on the lush Kalani Retreat Center, this cottage option includes 1 King bed and can accommodate up to 2 guests. Each open concept building has a spacious bedroom with fresh linens and towels, an ensuite bathroom with shower (often though not always with a bathtub as well), and a surrounding landscape with either jungle or ocean views. Photos include several cottages to showcase the variety of unique designs on our campus. Cottages are reserved based on availability. Please let us know if you have a preference and we will do our best to accommodate your request. There is a mini fridge in each cottage and snacks can be purchased at our Hale Aloha shop. We do not offer meal services and do not have cooking equipment inside of cottages. We recommend local farmer’s markets and the variety of restaurants and stores in artistic Pāhoa town 20 minutes away. We look forward to welcoming you soon! Enjoy access to our forest footpaths, studio spaces, and small convenience shop named Hale Aloha from 8 am - 6 pm daily. Spa services such as massage therapy can also be arranged and we invite you to explore the wellness options listed on our website. Admission to events, workshops or community classes such as yoga, dance, art and permaculture must be purchased separately with the exception of classes offered on a free or donation basis. A schedule is available on the Calendar page of our website. Please inquire with our team if there are any special events planned during your intended stay. Complimentary WiFi is available, however it can be inconsistent given our remote jungle environment. This can be a wonderful space to embrace the connection to nature, rather than the virtual world. We highly recommend renting a vehicle for exploring the vast natural splendor of our rural area. Staff personnel will be available to assist you at Hale Aloha from 8 am - 6 pm daily. There will also be a designated personnel on call for emergencies throughout your stay. Located within the lush jungle and wild coastline of eastern Hawai’i island, Kalani Retreat Center provides an incredible opportunity to connect, learn and rejuvenate in a remote and abundant environment. Discover tropical fruit trees, flourishing gardens and thriving local wildlife, participate in community classes or events such as yoga, dance, permaculture, and art, and embrace wellness activities like massage that are available during your stay at our nonprofit retreat center and intentional community. Explore the surrounding landscapes of the scenic and enchanting Red Road of Puna with its tunnels of tree canopies, cliffside ocean vistas, vibrant jungles, creative communities and lava fields along the way. Kalani is close to natural wonders such as black sand beaches and lava fields from the 2018 lava eruption, and 20 minutes from the charming shops and restaurants of historic Pāhoa town. We highly recommend renting a vehicle for exploring the hidden treasures of our rural area. We look forward to welcoming you into our intentional community and educational retreat center soon! We highly recommend renting a vehicle for exploring the hidden treasures of our rural area and restaurants in the town of Pāhoa, about 20 minutes away. You're welcome to walk the abundant nature paths on our property as well. Please note cell service is not widely available in our area. We will send check in information to you before 4 pm on the day of your arrival that allows for contactless and after hours check in with all relevant information and directions. As an educational nonprofit retreat center, we support thoughtful and educational travel to our islands and encourage you to explore the Pono Pledge to mālama (care for and steward) these lands and discover information about cultural etiquette and protected species.
