Tropical Zen Bungalow is a cozy and private 'ohana' on the Big Island of Hawaii. Enjoy a sense of seclusion where you can relax in comfort during your tropical retreat. Includes full bath, kitchenette, queen bed, screened lanai, garden view and outdoor shower. French doors and windows open to palm trees, ferns, ti plants, Ironwood trees & Norfolk pines. We are located in a quiet beach community along the scenic Red Road on the coast of Hawaii, a short distance to Kehena black sand beach. The bungalow has its own driveway and is set back from the main road so that you have plenty of privacy. One or two people can easily share the 'ohana' comfortably. There's a comfortable queen bed, covered lanai, kitchenette, and full bath with tub, along with an outdoor shower. There are plenty of windows and a french door opening to the screened-in lanai where you can gaze at the palm trees, ferns, banana trees, and large Norfolk pines. Enjoy listening to the ironwood tree as the breeze blows through. The walls and roof are well insulated so you'll feel protected even during a passing rain. My art studio is nearby. You may well find some of my original watercolors and landscape paintings adorning your walls. My space has all the amenities that you'll need, including bathtub, refrigerator, hot plate, toaster oven, microwave, blender, and large kitchen sink. There's an attached covered lanai where you can sit outside and enjoy a meal, connect to the internet using the fast wifi, or just do nothing at all. There is a washer/dryer available for your use as well. Organic fresh fruit, herbs or vegetables from the garden are available when it's harvest time. One of the joys of hosting my home is getting to meet my guests and share part of their journey with them. Your privacy and comfort is paramount to me and I will interact only according to what is natural and in the flow of your visit. I am available to offer recommendations of places to visit and activities to do in the area. Kehena Beach: (1.5 miles way) a stunning black sand beach (clothing optional). On the right day, you might have the opportunity to swim with the dolphins that frequent the coastline. Red Road: Kalapana-Kapoho Beach road, You can now drive down the 'Red Road' for about 9 miles and enjoy the magical tree tunnels and ocean view lookouts along one of Hawaii's most beautiful coastal routes. Parking is available where the road ends at Pohoiki Beach Park which narrowly escaped the lava flow in 2018. Catch stunning views of the black lava cliffs on your drive to Pohoiki oceanfront park. There you can soak in naturally heated ponds or sunbathe on the newest black sand beach in the world. Uncle Robert's Awa Bar and Farmers Market: Uncle Robert's is a must see weekly event on Wednesday nights. Uncle Robert's offers local, live Hawaiian music, dancing, delicious food vendors, fruits and vegetable stands, and unique local craft vendors (4 miles). Pahoa town is a 20 minute drive. There are good restaurants, art galleries, boutiques, and a local museum. There is a wonderful yoga studio just 3 blocks from my house available offering daily yoga classes and weekly music concerts. A labyrinth is available to walk in quiet contemplation only 3 blocks away. It's best to rent a car on the Big Island of Hawaii. The closest airport is in Hilo, a 45 minute drive from my home. I recommend renting a car during your stay. I am a fine artist/painter and art teacher. You may see my original watercolors and pleinair landscape paintings displayed on the walls of the house and bungalow. I sometimes teach art in my art studio. Guests are welcome to attend painting workshops when scheduled or ask for individual lessons.
