All of our cottages provide an exceptional vacation experience, as our property is characterized by expansive lawns, lush palms, and fragrant tropical flowers in a very private setting. On the "makai" or sea side, the cottages are almost on the sandy beach of the Pacific with great snorkeling behind a protective reef! The wide beach directly in front of the property is a favorite spot for Ha'ena locals, but rarely frequented by any tourists. On the "mauka" or mountain side, well-maintained lawn areas behind shielding hedges, but with clear views of the nearby Napali Coastal Range with the world-famous Kalalau Trail, invite you to play and relax on the property. None of our cottages are built on "stilts", which makes the transition between inside and out much more immediate, natural, and pleasant than what is mostly offered elsewhere on Kauai. What also distinguishes our property is that we are located, not directly on the main Kuhio Highway with its high traffic, but rather at the end of a short and quiet side road towards the ocean with designated parking. Our property features free cable TV, redundant hard-wired and Wi-Fi Internet access. When you stay at the Hale Makai Cottages, you will feel like you are not just visiting, but living in Kauai! You will have access to your own stand alone cottage, our 2 acres of lush greenery and of course beach access is just steps away. We will email you the arrival instructions once you have booked. There will be a code on the instructions to get into the cottage. We are available to our guest via email and/or telephone. Please note that as a private property, not a hotel or resort, we do not have a full-time staff that is onsite every day. We will do our best to accommodate requests and minor repairs that may arise during your stay, but circumstances may require items be dealt with after your departure. Our guests pay the independent cleaning company directly at check out. The cleaning fee can be left in cash, (Hidden by Airbnb) , or check but is NOT included in the reservation/invoice. The cleaning fees are $160 for 1-bedroom, $180 for Cottage #2, and $200 for Cottage #5. Please coordinate additional items, such as air mattresses, Pac N Play cribs, and laundry access at the time of booking. Laundry is $5/load which includes a packet of approved biodegradable detergent. The cleaning company will leave the packet(s) in the cottage before you arrive. Please note that if you request laundry access after your arrival, there may not staff available to provide the approved detergent before your departure. Each cottage has 1 assigned parking spot. The parking spots are designed for small cars, (as is the majority of the island) not SUVs, Jeeps or large trucks. If you rent a larger car, you may have to park on AleaAlea road to allow other guests with small cars to use their parking spots. Please do not park outside your assigned spot or in the unmarked spot as that is for service vehicles to drive on and off the property. If you would like to add laundry to your reservation it is $5/load and must be done before your arrival on the island and directly through our office. Please note that we require every guest to provide their email address so we can email you the Arrival Instructions PDF file as well as your mailing address. A mailing address for every guest is required to be on file in our office by our insurance company. We are not able to accept reservations without both items. If you require the Pac N Play crib or air mattress pleas let our office know during the booking process so we can arrange for it to be in the cottage before you arrive.
