Skip the stuffy hotel and crowded elevators, and escape to a tropical hideaway in an historic Hawaiian bungalow. This recently renovated 100-yr-old home features a private apartment on the first floor completely remodeled to include Koa Pergo floors, new cabinets, quartz countertops, private bath with travertine shower, and full-size stainless appliances. Enjoy a comfortable bed of fresh linens and warm tropical tradewinds through classic jalousie windows. We are located in the Makiki-Punchbowl neighborhood, which is comprised of single-family houses, duplexes, apartments, and low-rise and high-rise condos. This hilly hideaway neighborhood is a mix of old and new structures with a variety of residents, from students to young professionals, to the retired. The apartment is a separate living quarters, with a full kitchen, private bath, two bedrooms, living area and access to a lush patio garden with dining table and fire pit. The street and neighborhood are alive with activity most of the day, as it is on the edge of downtown. The hillside and subterranean nature of the apartment shield it from much of the neighborhood noise, but we are on a street, that can be very busy at times. At night, the occasional moped or motorcycle can disrupt the tranquility. Stand alone A/C units are available for each bedroom for warmer nights. For light sleepers and those sensitive to the street noise, the windows may be closed and the A/C units may be employed to produce some “white noise.” Please note that the apartment is a walkout basement on the first floor of our home. The ceilings feature a cross beam that is lower than the rest of the ceiling (76” versus 84”). The apartment is exclusively yours with a private entrance. You are welcome to share our patio garden with us, which includes a dining table, umbrella and fire pit. As with most Hawaiian homes, our washer and dryer are outside, and are available for your use. The apartment is stocked with a Keurig and K-cups as well as a French press, drip coffee maker, and tea kettle, as well as ground coffee and black and herbal tea. Dishes, utensils, pots and pans, rice cooker, paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, laundry detergent, hand soap and shampoo/conditioner/body wash are also provided. Clean linens and towels are furnished at the beginning of each stay. The kitchen features a full size gas range with oven, full-size sink, and 15 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer. A small propane grill is accessible on the patio. The apartment is also equipped with a Smart TV and WiFi. The Roku TV is located in the living area and is equipped with local cable and a variety of streaming programming. Beach towels, a beach blanket, beach sand umbrella, full-height beach chairs, portable tent-style beach shelter, and two large adult and two medium adult U.S. Divers snorkel and fin sets are included in your rental. We have a single parking space in our driveway free to our AirBnB guests. Worth noting however: this is a very hilly part of town, and therefore, our driveway and parking pad are a little steep for those not accustomed to hills. Our guests from Hawaii, Colorado or San Francisco won’t bat and eye, but others may find it difficult at first. Please note a new development during February and March of 2022… Recently, guests have been receiving low-riding vehicles from the rental agencies: including most minivans, and specifically Chevy Monte Carlo/Camaro, Hyundai Elantra and Kia Optima. When loaded with luggage and passengers, these vehicles have experienced scraping of the undercarriage in our driveway. In some cases, when luggage and extra passengers have exited before entering the driveway, and the car enters the driveway at an angle, the cars had no scraping. However, we strongly recommend renting a Jeep, SUV, or crossover-type vehicle. Please let us know if you have questions about this! All State & Local Taxes are included in the listed price. No additional fees beyond what you pay initially through AirBnB due upon check-in. My husband, Mike, and I live upstairs. We both work full time jobs, but we are home in the evenings and on weekends. We are always available by text or phone. We love to interact with our guests...if we’re home, we may be working in the yard or grilling. We also understand that some guests would prefer more privacy. We love our beautiful historic home and its close proximity to the great offerings of Honolulu. Less Than 2 Miles Away: Ala Moana Park, and we are walkable to Thomas Square, Straub Hospital, and The Blaisdell Center. The great shops and restaurants of SALT at Kaka’ako. About 2 Miles Away: Ala Moana Mall, Ward Center, Whole Foods, The Hawaii Convention Center, Kapiolani & Queens Medical Centers, Chinatown. We are a short bike ride to Waikiki Beach and Kapiolani Beach Park. The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Kaimuki, Manoa Falls, Tantalus Lookout, Pearl Harbor, the Airport, and Diamond Head are all within a 10 or 15 minute drive. The Honolulu bus system is quite efficient and affordable, and we are near two bus stops. However, guests can find a Biki bike rental station near by, which is the most convenient and economical way to rent a bike in Honolulu. Uber and Lyft are great options, as well. General Excise and Transient Accommodation Taxes included in the listed price. This home is rented once per 30 days (30-day Rental)
