Our uniquely wonderful country-style guesthouse sits atop seven acres of pastures and tropical foliage in one of the most special corners of "old Hawaii". We offer 3 distinct guest units which can sleep 1-12 people between them, each with private baths and their own entrances, food prep and dining areas, wifi, satellite TV; weekly, monthly, military, senior discounts(seasonal);magnificent 360 degree views of Maui across the sea, horses and goats grazing in our lush pastures and amazing tropical gardens. Wake up to birds singing. Walk or jog up our quiet street or down to the historic town of Kapaau and the famous statue of King Kamehameha, the uniter of our islands. Cafes, galleries, eclectic shops and excellent restaurants, a public park and pool are minutes away. Treat yourself to easy scenic drives over the Kohala Mountain Road to Waimea or along our gorgeous coastline, watch whales(December-April) ,hiking, horseback, zipline, variety of beaches, diverse, authentic cultural events.Our family is honored to welcome friendly visitors from all over the world to share the diverse treasures of our beloved North Kohala. ,It's is wonderful to be part of precious memories created by families, friends, business people, adventurers, writers , photographers and artists. We are excited to share our ohana's 44 years of experience in loving the Big Island's history, culture and natural beauty. We think you'll agree: Kohala "No ka oe"! Guests can walk down our hill to eclectic shops, galleries, cafes, great public park with gym, swimming pool, tennis, golf and playground. Barbecue or picnic in our garden setting. Play basket ball, ping pong or volleyball or look through our telescope. Direct TV and usually adequate wifi, now upgraded to satellite.(finally coming to our"neck of the woods"). Fix your own meals with small appliances or order from yummy nearby cafes. Play basketball, ping pong, ask us to schedule a massage, infrared sauna, ukulele, guitar, hula ,art or culinary lesson; be creative, adventurous, listen to some of Hawaii's best local musicians, or just relax and enjoy a "step back in time" amid our gorgeous North Kohala. We are a country ranch house, so please enjoy the experience of a "laid back atmosphere", "old Hawaiian style". We enthusiastically help you plan your time in our fantastic North Kohala and incredible Big Island, as we have lived here for 48 awesome years. We try to be available at any time should you have any concerns. We want guests to have all the "peace and relaxation" and privacy possible, but love to share moments as desired and time allows. We have loved living on Kapaau Road for over 48 years with friendly neighbors, just far enough away to feel very private in our own "special corner of paradise". You can take a walk or a jog, or sit under our trees(not with coconuts),swing in our hammock, sit on our decks and relax. We are just a few minutes walk from the quaint historic town of Kapaau which holds an authentic paniolo "cowboy and pa' u riders " parade celebrating the birthday of King Kamehameha,( every June 11th) whose famous statue is on our corner. North Kohala has a fabulous Country Fair in October,Chinese Lion dances in February and many musical and cultural events at nearby Kamehameha Park You really do need a rental car to get the most out of North Kohala,though we have had several bicycling andy motorcycling guests. There is public transportation about 1/4 mile away,early in the morning and returning late afternoon.(Waimea,Hilo,South Kohala resorts,Kailua Kona. Cabs are costly, but walking's a possibility to many nearby places of interest if one's without a car for part of the day while traveling partner is on business or has special interests needing the vehicle. Airbnb will collect Hawaii State Guesthouse taxes:17.962% (10.25%TAT and 4.712%GET/3%County Tax).Airbnb will let you know the tax amount when the bill is finalized. Mahalo. ******For the Garden Room,the standard $80 cleaning fee is valid for up to a one week rental. ******Please note: additional cleaning fees at a rate of about $60 per extra week based on number of days and number of people. This will be paid through Airbnb at host's request. We are a Bed and Beauty but you can do some light cooking. The Sundeck Suite has a garden-view kitchen..we can't have ovens.., where you can prepare what you want to eat breakfast at home, prepare picnics, order "take out" from excellent cafes and watch a movie, or enjoy magnificent sunsets on the fantastic deck. The Cozy and Garden have "kitchenettes" with small appliances, food prep and dining areas. We do have a common laundry room with a cold water washing machine, clothesline. You can request for a $10-15 fee per load have me do some laundry in hot water and dry it in my machines. The sun is almost always available and I can take usually your laundry off the line while you're out having fun. All units have beautiful views; outdoor Garden furniture is available to all guests..There is no smoking anywhere in or near the house and rooms, or guests. Compost is put in a special container for our gardens and recycle bins are available.We ask that you conserve electricity as much as practical, turn off lights and fans when you leave, and close the Sundeck's northern window in case of rain while you're out and about. All units are connected from nearby parking by concrete walkways. Please let us know ahead of arrival, if you need help with luggage.Please park facing our basketball court or at least out of the way from other guests. We have plenty of room . We appreciate your kokua!
