This fun and unique space is fully self-sufficient. The single room Ohana unit is separate (private) but adjacent to our main house 🏘. Includes a private *outdoor* bathroom (see photos/reviews), plus bathhouse with jetbath+shower 🛁🚿 a short walk outside of the room. AC 🌬, Wifi, mini fridge, microwave, drinking water 🚰, coffee maker ☕️, TV/roku, Washer/Dryer, dishware. We can provide beach/snorkel gear upon request (towels, umbrellas, chairs, coolers, fins, masks/snorkels). The bedroom is a stand alone building with access to private bathroom & bath house that via an outdoor concrete walkway (It is not a fully covered walk, umbrellas are provided and the walkway is lit up at night). The rustic style bathroom & sink are under the same roof as our washer/dryer and the beautiful and fully enclosed tiled bathhouse with jet bath and shower. The room includes a queen bed with a new memory foam mattress, a breakfast table with 2 stools, a small coffee table, comfy chair, window unit air conditioner, basic appliances & dishware, and a water jug dispenser (all tap water is also potable). Shared spaces: The washer/dryer are shared and located next to the bathroom/bathhouse, though we try our best to stay out of your way by doing laundry when guests are not present. Parking is available in the driveway- see check in info for more details. You are allowed to use the space in the shared backyard area behind the bathroom section. Please note there are easily moveable dog gates blocking access, and dogs are NEVER out in the fenced area unsupervised while we have guests. The gazebo has a table and chairs, and the outdoor 'living room' space has a couch and tv. These outside areas are not technically part of our 'airbnb space', and are well used by us. As such, we ask you kindly to leave all reviews to the bedroom and bathroom areas that are photographed in the listing (ex. there will be dog hair on the couch, etc., while the 'airbnb designated areas' follow a strict cleaning protocol). There are fruit trees and flowering plants throughout the yard; you're welcome to pick any available fruit and flowers while staying with us. Wildlife: Hilo is a tropical location, and the warm, wet weather is ideal for all kinds of life. Insects & Pests: We treat for fire ants regularly, though occasionally there are breakthroughs. There are mosquitoes, mostly active in the evening. Cockroaches are common in Hawaii though fortunately we don't see them often on our property, however please be diligent about not leaving any food scraps. Please avoid any and all contact with slugs and snails, they carry rat-lung worm. Amphibians: The Puerto Rican Coqui frog are small frogs that sing boldly starting at dusk. If noise bothers you, we recommend earplugs and/or turning on the AC with closed windows. Reptiles & Birds: In and around the property you can expect to see several species of geckos, anoles, and feral chickens- all harmless and excellent for pest control! Other birds you might see/hear include Japanese white-eyes, Northern cardinals, saffron finches, red-billed cardinals, common Mynas, zebra doves, collared doves, Chinese Hwamei. Few native species, but we often see 'io (Hawaiian hawk), and sometimes nene flying overhead (the native goose and also the state bird!). Parking available for 1 vehicle in the driveway- Please let us know ahead of time if you will need space for an additional vehicle. We highly recommend a car. It is very rainy up here and not an easily walkable distance to many places. The house is a short drive or 20 min walk to downtown/bayfront, a 15 min walk to Rainbow Falls, and a 10-15 min drive to local beaches. We are 45 minutes from Volcano, 90 minutes from Kailua, Waikoloa, and Waimea, and 2 hours from South Kona/Captain Cook. I am available to assist guests either in person, by phone, or through the airbnb app. The property is about a mile uphill from downtown Hilo. It is in close proximity to beautiful natural attractions including Rainbow Falls, Kaumana Caves, and Boiling Pots. Walking distance to rainbow falls, 20 min walk or < 5 min drive to downtown. 10-20 min drive from stunning Hilo beaches, 90 minutes to Kona, and 45 minutes to Volcano. Renting a car is probably your best option while exploring the Big Island. The room is best suited for 2 people, though we have a twin air mattress available upon request. The 'Ohana unit is detached from our house and has a private entrance and private bathroom/shower. There are several stairs between the driveway and the front door, as well as from the room to the bathroom; take extra care as these can be slippery in the rainy weather.
