Portland's downtown Old Port district is the epicenter of the Maine experience. During your visit enjoy great food, fresh air, and beautiful scenery. This walkable area of the city is home to 150+ award-winning restaurants and chefs – with some of the freshest seafood and lobster in the world there is no better place for foodies to call home. The working waterfront has a charm of its own – you’ll find brightly colored lobster traps stacked along family-owned wharves and salty lobstermen pulling in their daily hauls. Just make sure to get a lobster dish at least once while you’re here. Besides a great dining experience, Maine is home to over 140 micro-breweries. Some of the cleanest snowpacks melt into the freshwater supply of the Casco Bay area, giving breweries a "blank" slate to work with. It’s why we’re known for producing some of the haziest and juiciest IPAs in the world. Here’s a fun fact: did you know prohibition started in the State of Maine? This happened an entire year prior to the federal laws going into effect. Along the historic cobblestone streets, you’ll find beautiful hand-crafted cocktails and small bites at one of Portland's various lounges. Nestled between eclectic food and drinks, locally-owned shops sell artisan gifts, clothing, jewelry, specialty food products, and artwork. The perfect Maine-made souvenir is mere blocks away. Outdoor lovers can break out of the city and enjoy winding hiking trails into the mountains. Portland's the perfect basecamp for any of these socially distanced activities: ski/snowboard adventure, bird watching, bicycling, hiking, and camping. Off the working waterfront, charter a boat out of the marina for a day on the water and a visit to one of the 365+ islands of Casco Bay. If you haven’t figured it out by now, there is truly too much to cover. Let us know your interests and we’d be happy to pinpoint you to some of our favorite local recommendations.
