Enjoy the Crow’s Nest which perches atop our Roundhouse. The 180° view of the ocean from the covered Lani gives a sweeping view of Kaohe Bay (Pebble Beach) and whales. (peak times Dec-Mar). The ocean with a beautiful deep reef, is 2 blocks away! Hike to an extinct cinder cone, south, along the ocean. Birds abound. We are located 45 minutes south of Kona this is the perfect place for exploring snorkeling at Hookena Beach, 2- Step beach & Kealakekua Bay. Tax ID’s GE153870131201 TA153870131201 The space This is the top floor(Crows nest) of the Roundhouse, it has its own private solar lit driveway and a private staircase entrance. The Crows nest affords 180 degree views of the ocean and migrating whales who may stop for a frolic at the black sandy/pebble beach cove at the bottom of the road. Sometimes you can hear their calls, it’s magical! The kitchenette is equipped with a 2 burner hot plate, toaster oven, microwave, electric tea kettle, rice cooker and a full size refrigerator. There are several ways to make coffee. We have a gas BBQ with a side burner too! There is a private wrap around lanai surrounding the Crow’s Nest with a patio table and chairs to enjoy the spectacular sunsets. We are 25 min. south of Captain Cook, where the nearest grocery store is, you may want to pick up groceries and ice on your way in. This is a more remote, quiet, rural place than staying in Kona. We are 45 minutes south of Kona. We are located near some great snorkeling spots: Two Step ( near City of Refuge) Hookena Beach You can see Spinner Dolphins at Kealakekua Bay in Captain Cook, in the early morning and at Hookena too! We are 90 min to Kīlauea Volcano National Park. The beach below the house has an awesome reef, the current can be strong seasonally, so please be strong swimmers, wear fins, use common sense. The sunsets from the Lani are awesome. This is rural Hawaii, we do ask that you keep food contained and counters and floor free of food spills, as this attracts insects. We provide recycle containers and recycle as much as Hawaii allows. We have ceiling fans, and no air conditioning. Open screened windows make for a nice ocean breeze blowing in. We are on rainwater only, (water catchment system, so water conservation is a must). We ask that your showers be brief and please do not let water run unnecessarily. We provide a bottom fed water cooler with bottled water for drinking and also our catchment water system (rain water) has an Ultra Violet Blue light system for whole house water usage. The property is surrounded by fruit trees and the birds are prolific. We are two blocks from the beach, with the Kings Trail going in both directions, hiking in the morning and late afternoon is quite lovely, it does get warm mid day, as you are surrounded by black lava, which is spectacular. The south hike ends at an extinct cinder cone, be sure to wear a hat and take water. On foot it is a 30-45 min hike one way. The Crow's Nest, is the 2nd floor of the Roundhouse. A one bedroom ohana (apartment) with a living room, kitchenette area with a dining table, walk thru closet , bathroom with a shower. There is a closet in the walk thru from the livingroom and kitchen area to the bedroom. There is a wrap around lanai that surrounds the Crow’s Nest to watch beautiful sunsets. You have the top floor and Lanai to yourselves, with a private black crushed lava driveway at the upper part of the property. You may use the BBQ on the first floor. Please let me know if you will be using it during your stay. Enjoy! Other things to note We are rural Hawaii, and located near some wonderful snorkeling spots! Insects are a part of living in Hawaii. We do provide some insect repellent and please bring yours if you are sensitive or use special products. If you are allergic to wasp stings or mosquitoes, please bring appropriate medications for this. It is nice to bring a pair of indoor house slippers or flip flops if you like to wear shoes inside, as street shoes are left at the front door. Beach/water shoes with a firm sole is helpful for the black sand/pebble beach. There is a good laundromat 30 minutes away, 30 min. wash cycles with a cute downtown to browse while waiting. We can provide extra linens for a linen change for stays longer stays. If you arrive late at night please be aware of noise while checking in.
