The 'Adobe House' is a traditional building of the Aveiro District, and is located in a small village near Oliveira do Bairro, in the centre of Portugal, at 25km from the coast line, near Aveiro, Vista Alegre, Águeda and Coimbra. The surrounding areas include the Atlantic, river beaches, fields, forests, the Pateira lagoon, Curia Thermal spa, the national velodrome of Anadia amongst other places. The region is well known for its wines and its gatronomy and is ideal to relax or work. The space Casa de Adobe, originally a humble country home, stylistically fits in perfectly with the linearity of contemporary architecture. The aim in this project was to preserve the simplicity of this vernacular building and highlight its essence, pure and healthy. This results in a space that is calm, where one can relax, recharge energies or even quietly work. The surrounding nature in the garden and patio at the back of the house contribute to the feeling of peace, simplicity and tranquility. The house has two AC units, one in the leaving room on the ground floor and one on the top bedroom, in order to cope with the more extreme weather conditions. Two small oil heaters can be provided to warm up the two ground floor bedrooms between November and March. There is also a wooden stove in the leaving area for experienced guests. The separation of rubbish is promoted in this property. Vegetable and paper/cardboard waste can go to a compost pile in the garden, whilst the townhall provides with bins for plastic and metal and another for glass. The house is located at the heart of a village, so a conscient and respectful use is greatly appreciated. Guest access A remote control for the gate and two keys (one for the front of the house, one for the back of the house) will be handled to the guests. The guests can enter with their vehicule and park at the back. Other things to note Casa de Adobe is the result of a wish to enhance the traditional architecture of this region and is described as sustainable. This type of building, known as 'Casa Gandaresa', is tipical of the rural areas of this district and is unique in the country for the material it is made of: abobe blocks made of sun-dried blocks of yellow sand and lime. This restoration project is sustainable and closely follows the ethics in building conservation, utilizing traditional materials such as lime, sand, terracotta tiles, wood e bright colours.
