Other things to note ELECTRICITY In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the standard voltage is 230V with a frequency of 50Hz. However, at Daisy House, we provide both U.S.-style outlets (110V for Type A and B) and U.K.-style outlets (230V for Type G) throughout the house to accommodate a variety of international devices. Guests traveling from other countries may need to bring their own adapters to ensure compatibility with the outlets. Please note that while most modern electronics (like smartphones and laptops) can handle varying voltages, certain appliances that use motors, such as hairdryers, may not function properly due to the 50Hz frequency rather than the voltage difference. Devices like electric razors, shavers, and some kitchen appliances with motors might also experience performance issues. We recommend checking the specifications of your appliances before use to ensure they are compatible with the local frequency. NOISE Daisy House is located in a tranquil residential neighborhood, offering guests a taste of authentic island life. As is typical in the islands, most residents keep their dogs outdoors, and it’s not uncommon to occasionally hear dogs barking at various hours. Your day might begin with the crowing of roosters or the soft bleating of goats and sheep, accompanied by the cheerful chirping of birds. Around 6 a.m., you may also hear the honking of the bread van as it makes its rounds through the neighborhood, offering freshly made bread—a delightful opportunity to enjoy a true local tradition. The house is situated on the main street, so you may hear cars passing by during your stay. At night, when the neighborhood quiets down, the natural symphony of the islands comes alive. The sounds of crickets, lizards, and other insects might seem louder in the stillness, creating a unique and immersive experience of nature's rhythms. While these sounds are part of the vibrant rhythm of island living, the Garden Apartment provides a serene retreat to relax and unwind. DRIVING Driving in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines offers a unique experience that visitors should be prepared for. Vehicles drive on the left side of the road, with the steering wheel on the right-hand side. For those unfamiliar with these conditions, driving may feel challenging at first, especially on the island’s roads. The roads in SVG are mostly curvy and winding, with sharp bends, steep climbs, and descents. Many stretches are without guardrails, particularly on hills and curves, and the road conditions can include potholes and uneven surfaces. Roads are also narrow in many areas, requiring careful navigation. Drivers in SVG honk frequently, but this is primarily a form of communication to alert other drivers rather than an expression of impatience. Visitors who plan to drive will need to obtain a temporary driver’s license, which is valid for six months and costs EC$100 (approximately US$38). This permit can be obtained upon presentation of a valid overseas driver's license at the following locations: - The Special Branch Officer at Argyle International Airport - The police station on Bay Street in Kingstown - The Licensing Authority on Halifax Street Car rental agencies can also assist with obtaining the permit. If you’re not experienced with these driving conditions, consider using a taxi or other local transportation for a safer and more relaxed trip.
