Description

Quaint, Quiet and Quirky! Our lovely tiny 1 bedroom stone cottage in the heart of the Derwent World Heritage Site, in Belpers` conservation area. Newly renovated keeping the traditional charm of this special little cottage. Set in an elevated position in Belper with just a few minutes walk away from the award winning bustling High Street. Here you can enjoy the many friendly independent shops, bakeries, cafes, bistros , the art deco Ritz Cinema and not forgetting a few of the towns 19 pubs. The space This tiny sweet little cottage is our second home in amazing Belper, we have recently renovated and is ready for guests to enjoy. (Free parking outside the property) The entrance opens into a lounge with oak wood flooring and low beamed ceilings. Upon initial renovation back in the 1990s hundreds of handmade nails were discovered in the living room floor , so we believe this was a mill cottage but still being used for the traditional Belper nail making industry!. There is a log burner in the lounge so you can cosy down on the Harris Tweed sofa on a cold winters evening. That is if if you choose not to visit the great selection of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. High speed wifi is installed in the cottage There is a traditional pine dining table and chairs should you wish instead to enjoy your own homecooked dinner. Food can be prepared in the newly installed handmade kitchen with Belfast sink. The Kitchen is well equipped with a double oven cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, expresso maker and toaster. Of course we we leave the basics for when you arrive such as coffee tea, sugar milk and cleaning materials. The back door opens onto a private yard, with a stone retaining wall, at the side of which is a small building housing a washing machine. (The water may need to be switched off during extreme cold temperatures) There is access to a patio area with table and chairs via an extremely steep stone spiral staircase. The patio has table and chairs. Then further steps takes you up to the sunny private garden area with barbeque and washing line.(garden is approximately the same level as the cottage roof.) Please note there is access to the other cottages over the garden but they rarely use it due to the very steep path. Upstairs from the kitchen via a very steep twisted staircase with a low roof (mind your head!)on the ground floor you come to a lovely bedroom. This has original pitch pine floorboarding , a king size Laura Ashley iron bedframe with deep mattress and leather bedside tables. Stripped pine wardrobe and drawers. iron, ironing board and hairdryer. Bed linen and towels are provided. Then into a spacious bright ensuite with a traditional bathroom suite. With a small bath with new overbath electric shower. *Please be aware this property is not be suitable for wheelchair access or anyone with any mobility issues. Sorry strictly no children due to safety issues. One small dog can be accommodated with prior arrangement. Sorry strictly no cats. Belper enjoys a rich culture with live music, festivals, antiques, farmers markets, industrial revolution heritage: Belper culinary offerings include everything from real ale to cocktails , fish and chips to tapas, organic coffee to a traditional British cuppa. But lets not forget the spectacular scenery and hiking. Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District and National Trust properties all easily accessible. One of the great benefits of Belpers location is that you can enjoy the delights of the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District without needing a car. Buses and train stops within a few minutes walk. However If you have your car there is free carparking on the street outside . Here are just a few of the many Derbyshire offerings. Other historic towns such as Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Hartington and Castleton and the Blue John mines Peak District walks and cycle rides from Edale and Ashbourne. The historic spa town of Buxton, home of Poole’s cavern and the Victorian opera house. Derbyshire and the Peak District National park (The Uks first national park 1952) Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Heage Windmill, Pickfords House, Calke Abbey, the Heights of Abraham's and Gulliver's Kingdom. Guest access: Parking is on road FREE parking. Train Station 10 minutes walk. Bus Stop few hundred meters. Bus Station 15 minutes walk So if you dont drive, you can easily travel the cottage and the areas beyond. Other things to note No smoking or vaping permitted inside the cottage. Guest access All areas are accesible Other things to note The cottage is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or children. It has very steep stairs with low roof and access to the key safe is via steep narrow outdoor steps. The log burner unfortunately I cannot supply logs as the cleaner does not offer this service. You are of course welcome to use any we may have left behind. Please do not burn paper and ensure ashes are put in the metal bin. The feature fireplace in the bedroom is strictly not in use. Small dogs may be accepted with prior arrangement
