Home in Oakland
Description
Walk down the short slope to your private dock. Launch the canoe and kayaks and explore the lake. Enjoy nightly sunsets from the dock, deck or west-facing great room and kitchen. If you're observant, you'll see bald eagles, ospreys and herons, and you're bound to see and hear loons. A 2 mile paddle to the lake’s northern edge may reward you with a sighting of the sandhill cranes. Situated at the breezy tip of a peninsula at the Oakland end of East Pond, this home is 6 miles from Colby College. The space At the end of a private road, the cottage comfortably accommodates a family. It includes four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and a 24 foot square great room with a dining table that expands to seat 10 comfortably, as well as an entertainment area and a table in the corner for games and puzzles. The master bedroom has a king sized bed and a walk in closet. The spacious bonus bedroom over the garage gets the morning sun. That room has a painted plywood floor that is mostly carpeted. The other bedrooms are carpeted wall to wall. The main living space and three of the bedrooms have air conditioning (heat pumps). The great room includes a 65 inch OLED smart TV with surround sound speakers (watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, Peacock Premium, Max or AMC+, or connect to your own services). If you want to play music, the speakers connect easily to devices with Bluetooth. There are numerous board games and puzzles. There is a Peloton bike in the master bedroom and you are welcome to use it. If you're a Peloton user, bring your shoes and login. On the lake-side of the house there is a hammock. The lake is clean and clear and wonderful for swimming or paddling. You may use our two recreational kayaks, paddle board, and canoe. There are personal floatation devices (f.k.a. life jackets) of various sizes for you to use when you go out on the water. A big rock about 40 feet from the dock, just below the water surface (see photo), prevents motor boats from passing too close to the dock. On a hot day, the rock, surrounded by deep water, is a place to sit and contemplate nature or a fun spot for jumping and diving. NOTE: This is a special home. It is a quiet and beautiful place to enjoy nature. While the cottage will accommodate eight guests and has a large room for dining and relaxing, we ask that you not use it for parties or large gatherings. Please respect the property. Treat it and the items in it as you would your own (except for the fiberglass sea kayaks and carbon paddle boards, which are fragile and not for guest use). Guest access Entire property Other things to note There are walking trails nearby, including the French Mountain trail (short hike, big views) and some outstanding mountain biking trails (including Quarry Road, near Colby College, in Waterville, Bond Brook, in Augusta, Titcomb Mountain, in Farmington, and Carrabassett Valley). For more adventurous hikers, the Bigelow Range is 80 minutes away and Baxter State Park (Katahdin) is about two hours north. For a visit to the coast, the towns of Belfast and Camden are about an hour away, each offering restaurants, shopping and coastal walks.
