The Book Barn and Niantic Children's Museum are also very popular sites to visit for families with younger children. Bring your kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards. Guests are able to utilize Niantic Bay for water activities such as kayaks, canoes, or paddle boards (all NOT included). In order to provide quality assurance for all guests, we are available by Airbnb message board from 10am - 5pm (eastern standard time), seven days a week. We kindly ask that ALL communication is made through the Airbnb message board; to only utilize the telephone contact in the event of a true emergency. We are not at liberty to communicate with any other individuals (regarding the rental unit), other than the guest who directly booked the rental unit. The surrounding area offers guests the opportunity to visit well known historic areas such as Mashantucket Pequot Museum, Mystic, Mystic Seaport & Aquarium, Harkness Memorial Park, Fort Trumbull, Fort Griswold, and Ocean Beach Park. Besides the beautiful sugar sand beach, Ocean Beach Park has a boardwalk, minigolf, pools, water slides, playgrounds and food vendors. Surf fishing is welcome to guests on the beach shoreline during evening hours only. Bring your fishing poles, tackle box, and bait. Niantic is one of the most productive fishing regions on Long Island Sound. A good shore place to try for stripers is the mouth of the Niantic River, which separates the towns of Niantic and Waterford. The big bass go running through there all summer. You can fish either the east or west bank to the south of Route 156 and the train bridge. Cast into the mouth of the river channel where it meets the bay. Early mornings and evenings are the best times here. Expect heavy boat traffic on weekends, especially during the day. To access the train bridge fishing area in Niantic, turn north 100 yards west of the Niantic River bridge on Route 156 and follow the signs for the Black Hawk party boat parking. Walk from the parking lot toward the train bridge, where you'll find a concrete walkway that passes beneath it and accesses the beach. Fish the corner of the beach where the river meets Niantic Bay. You can also fish your way down the beach along the north end of Niantic Bay. Some great places to rent bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards are "Three Belles Marina" in Niantic Ct, "Action Sports" in Old Saybrook CT, and "Blue Heaven Kayak & Paddle Board Rentals" also "Adventure Mystic Outdoor Retail Store & Paddle Mystic - Kayak, Paddleboard, and Bike Rental" and "Mystic Supply" in Mystic CT. The Amtrack and ShoreLine East train station is just a short 15 minute drive away in Downtown New London, as well as a Greyhound Bus station and Major Ferry Station - The Cross Sound Ferry that ships to Orient Point Long Island, where you can explore the wineries. Also, the Block Island Ferry and the Fishers Island Ferry add to the adventurous getaways available by sea. There is no shortage of day trips you can take when it's just a 15 minute drive back to the house! But if you feel the urge to travel by air, the Bradley International Airport (Hartford CT) and Tweed New Haven Regional Airport (New Haven CT) are an hour away, and Rhode Island T.F.
