The Emerald Retreat is located in the idyllic town of Highland that has recently been described by the New York Times as the small community with a feel good spirit. Walking through the French Door entrance you will enter the Dining Room with a stone wall from the 1780 and sunlight streaming through a stained glass art piece. Beyond the Dining Room, you come to a Living Room with restored original windows, a loft bedroom with original stone wall, a completely renovated bathroom and kitchenette. You will be delighted by staying here, restored and refreshed. The Emerald Retreat has its own designated outdoor area made up of brand new patio with adirondack chairs. We hope The Emerald Retreat will provide a great base for you to relax, recuperate and enjoy the wonders of Hudson Valley. Please park on the north side parking space designated for the apartment. There is a flagstone path from the parking space to the front door. There is a motion detection light above the smart lock to give you the light you need. Once you are inside, the lights to the apartment are on the right side wall near the doors. Other things to note We look forward to your stay in our home. This is an old house, and we have taken great effort to modernize it while retaining its old-world charm. The apartment does have its quirks, but that is part of its charm. Everyone who walks in is amazed at the space! The kitchenette in this apartment includes a full-size sink, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, induction burner and a Cuisinart compact toaster oven with convection bake and air fryer. It does not include a traditional oven. We have provided pots and pans, and while you will not be able to cook a full course dinner easily, we think you can still work inside what is provided for simple meals. Although, there are many great restaurants very close by and we recommend taking advantage of them while you are here. No fires are permitted in the indoor fireplace. We have had the fireplace inspected and have been told it is not safe to have fires given how old it is. Please respect this and do not light any fires inside the fireplace at all!! We have deer and other wildlife that roam the property. We have a fabulous cleaning team and pest management service that make every effort to keep unwanted critters from entering the home. Please put all your food in the cabinets and refrigerator. Do not leave any food out on the counter or anywhere else. We love our 200+ year old home, but what comes with the joys of an old home is, well, tiny crevices, and many neighbors have been complaining lately about "unwelcomed guests". We do not want to invite any insects or mice into our home by making it easy for them to eat anything. Thank you! The house is located near a main road. There is a bit of traffic noise that most guests don’t seem to mind but please be aware that is not completely secluded, especially during the colder months when the tree cover is reduced. In the case of forecasted snow, local paved roads are well maintained by the town. We monitor the snow conditions and have it plowed if over 4" of snow. The apartment is cleaned according to the Covid-19 sanitization policies of Airbnb. Guest access You will have full access to the apartment, which is entirely separate and connected to the entire home. The patio has 2 Adirondack chairs, and to the backyard as well. Other things to note House Rules Please do not put food scraps down the kitchen sink! Please ensure the sink drain is in place while doing dishes and use paper towels to wipe any food scraps out after use. The Emerald Retreat is equipped with 3 heating and cooling units – the Living Room, Dining Room and in the Loft Bedroom. We ask that if you need to adjust them that you keep it in the range of 68-72. No smoking, please on the premises. No fires on premises. No shoes please!! We provide slippers. No parties or events on the premises. No camping on premises. No commercial use of property. Early check-in and late check-out are by request only, and if we can provide that then we will. But no guarantees! The apartment is set up for 2 people to stay. Please confirm the names of the guests who will be staying at the apartment. For consideration of other guests who may have allergies and the multiple units on this property, the apartment is not pet friendly. Please keep your pets home.
