Cider House East at Sewall Orchard.
Come visit our lovely organic orchard! These colorful, apartments above our cider building are listed as Cider House East & Cider House West. They're spacious with a large kitchen and bathroom. Rest, relax, hike our hill, and enjoy nearby state parks, lakes, ponds, the ocean or river & a string of lovely seaside towns with great cuisine and shopping. The space PLEASE use our web site directions rather than GPS, as GPS often takes people to an old, impassable part of Masalin Road. Please drive slowly (25) on Masalin Road and on our quarter mile driveway, for the sake of neighbors, their pets and deer and other wildlife. Also Bob maintains our road by hand! There is no public transportation in this part of Maine, sorry to say. The apartment has a large kitchen leading into the living room, a bedroom with a queen bed and closet, a bathroom with full tub and shower and a queen fold-out couch in living room. The fold-out couch, though new, is not exceedingly comfortable, even with a foam topper. Most guests with an infant or child have them sleep in a portacrib or pack and play, or for an older child, simply on the couch. The front deck looks up our blueberry hill and the living room and bedroom look down over the orchard and Camden Hills. This is a quiet farm situated on 46 acres with views of the Camden Hills. If guests hike up our blueberry hill ( a 20 minute walk) they can see over the Camden Hills to the sea, all the way to Acadia, and from the top of the hill looking back, the hills of Western Maine. Guest access This is a working farm. You will see farm and building equipment, rusty things, old trucks, and the like! Children should be supervised. Apple season (early September-early November) is great fun but busier than the rest of the year. Maine has a high tick population, so if planning to hike, bring appropriate clothing to cover yourself and plan to check yourselves and children when you come in. Guests can walk or hike anywhere on the property. In apple season you may walk through the orchard and pick apples, but please observe orchard rules: no climbing trees or swinging from branches, sample our apples and please put apple cores in compost buckets provided. Other things to note A lot to note! In apple season the main cider pressing days are Thursdays and Sundays. *Noise and activity generally begin by 8:00 am. Though the space is well-insulated, on pressing days the apple grinder sometimes starts at 7:30. Caveat emptor: People who need or want to sleep in on these days kindly be advised! You can watch the cider operation if you like. Sundays we press other peoples' apples for them and have many customers who have come with their families for this joyous ritual for years! We use natural laundry and dish soaps and use no dryer sheets or fabric softener. Our hand and body soap are also chemical-free. We do not iron our sheets. Our water is from these hills and good to drink!
