Kailua Beach is once again been rated as the best beach in the USA for 2019, by Dr. Beach. "The cottage is directly across the street from Kailua Beach Park and less than two minutes walk to step into the ocean at the beach. This a legal vacation rental, license1990/NUC-1758. The property is tucked away one house back from the road into Lanikai, and described by guests as "a little oasis of quiet and calm." The bathroom has been remodeled with a new shower, sink and plumbing fixtures April 2022! The space is ideal for up to five people, with a master bedroom with a queen size bed, a second bedroom with two single beds, and a "punee" (day bed) in the living room with a super-single sized bed mattress. A "pack-and-play" portable crib is also available. The bathroom has a full tub with shower. The kitchen is equipped with a good sized frig, microwave, large toaster oven and hot plate, and a full sized oven. The hosts have stayed as guests in more than 30 Airbnb rentals in Europe, Asia and the US, and know what features are most important to vacation travellers, with cleanliness being the number one priority. The cottage has just been renovated and is very well maintained. In March 2018, new tile flooring, new double-pane windows and split unit air conditioning units in were installed. Beach towels and quality beach chairs are provided. There are two end-to-end parking spaces on the property, and one of them is reserved exclusively for this unit. They are easy to get into and out of, if you know how to parallel park. If you do not know how to parallel park, it is recommended that you do not rent a van or large SUV, but consider a smaller vehicle with good all around visibility. The rental area is an entire part of a house, very private and with a reserved parking space just by the private entrance. It has its own charcoal BBQ grill and there is shared, large capacity and easy to use wash machine and electric dryer on site. We are easy to reach by phone, by WhatsApp, via the Airbnb app, or by email, and live only five minutes away. We use a keypad self check-in system. We are always happy to answer questions guest might have about the unit, Kailua town, and Oahu in general, or to drop by to assist with any issues that arise. I'm often around in the day time doing yard work and minor maintenance. We have a PDF file with recommendations on Kailua eating places, supermarkets, etc, and suggestions on things to see and do around Oahu. We email it to our guests rather than post it on the Airbnb listing, so our own guests get the benefit but our favorite places stay a little more secret and less overcrowded ;-) The area at the Lanikai end of Kailua Beach Park is a quiet local neighborhood comprised mostly of owner occupied homes, some long term rental units and a scattering of vacation rentals - our Kailua Beach Park - 12BR Cottage is one of the very few licensed, legal vacation rentals in the area. A car is great to have for any exploring of Oahu. Once at the cottage, however, you could enjoy the Kailua neighborhood itself without a car. It's about half an hour's walk into downtown Kailua, but only a few minutes walk through the Beach Park to Buzz's Steak House, Kalapawai Market, and the tourist oriented eating places and other businesses in Kailua Beach Center. Bus 70 passes in front of the property on the way into and out of Lanikai, with the stops very nearby, and heads into Kailua Town where you can transfer to bus 56 and 57 that go to Waikiki and Honolulu. Uber and Lyft are also available for local transport or to get to the airport, but can't pick up at the airport. A taxi from the airport runs about $50. At the Lanikai end of Kailua Beach Park, between Buzz’s Steak House and the hilltop pillar marking the entrance into Lanikai, there is only one other legal, licensed vacation rental, and it is a bed and breakfast rather than an "entire property" rental. All of the rest are unlicensed and illegal, and subject to shut down by the Department of Planning and Permitting, with subsequent cancellations of guests’ reservations.
