The park area features tables and grills, available on a first come first serve basis, in a shaded tropical setting sure to please any picnicker. The gulf front is more active while still providing a relaxed atmosphere for walkers, swimmers and sunbathers. Walking trails, through the restoration/preserve area, carry you through varied environments and offers an excellent opportunity for bird watching while being highlighted by panoramic views of Estero Bay. Bowditch Point Park is a designated Great Florida Birding Trail site. A Saltwater Fishing License is required to saltwater fish from shore. There is no fee for Florida residents. Take the Island's Beach Trolley street side (runs till 9pm) to wherever you wish to explore on the island, including family amusements, movie cinema, day or sunset cruises, fishing charters and casino ships, numerous restaurants, happy hours and entertainment venues. Don't forget the day ferry excursions to Key West, and travels to the Everglades! Drive south off the island to Lover's Key State Park, Bonita Springs, and Naples; north off the island you'll find the pristine beaches of Sanibel and Captiva Island; you'll also want to visit the newly revitalized downtown Fort Myers - a great spot for dining and nightlife. Fort Myers is also home to the Spring Training facilities of the Minnesota Twin and the Boston Red Sox. And have we mentioned golf? A trip to Fort Myers Beach has a little something for everyone.
