Always available now that I've retired and locally, Island Services (956-761-2640), can get anything repaired quickly should something happen. There are million-dollar homes in a gated community next to Las Verandas (on the north side), and expensive high-rise condos behind us and south of us. Las Verandas is on the north side of the island where the most expensive properties are located, but within walking distance to Clayton's on the Beach--great bar, Turtle Rescue Non-Profit, Birding and Nature Sanctuary and Padre's Convention Center. Happy to rec restaurants. Padre provides a free hop-a-bus along Padre Blvd. Our condo has designated free parking spot on site. We always drive down, but should you fly into Harlingen or Brownsville and rent a car at the airport, there are normally good weekly rates with unlimited mileage available. You can walk to the beach (White Sands Beach Access closest) or drive with free public parking close to most beach access points. You will want to bring your own beach towels or buy them when you're visiting. The condo has glasses, plates, flatware, automatic dishwasher, full size refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, toaster and blender. Island Services provides sheets and towels. You can rent beach umbrellas by the day from Panama Jack or buy inexpensive ones when you arrive.
