Located on the quiet north shore, 1 hour from the fire area- on the opposite side of the island. Ideal for returning visitors that like to explore during the day and relax quietly at night or exploring the road to Hana / Haleakala. Wander to the coffee shop for breakfast. Adventure the road to Hana, Haleakala or a nearby beach. Refresh in the warm outdoor shower. Admire the unique, colorful homemade decor. Imagine yourself living here forever. Repeat! (Daily guest cottage life!) Our home is located on the North shore of Maui, 1 hour from the fire area, on the opposite side of the island. Our home was not effected from the fires and continues to hosts guests. All of beautiful Maui is open for visitors to explore except the town of Lahaina on the west side. YOUR VACATION EXPECTATIONS are important to us! All homes and areas of Maui are very different. Please read below about our NORTH SHORE and read our HOUSE RULES thoroughly before booking to make sure our accommodations and amenities meet your needs. OUR COTTAGE FEATURES: * Semi-private yard and surfboard fence that surrounds the cottage on three sides * Front porch (climb 3 stairs up to enter home) * Remodeled home with wonderful sunlight, tradewinds and a beach surf vibe (we love surfing!) * Full kitchen * Cozy living room with couch and tv * Full bathroom with a tub/shower combo * Additional outdoor shower with hot and cold water (guest favorite!) * Upper small bedroom off living room with a queen memory foam bed * Lower larger bedroom with a queen memory foam bed (climb 2 stairs down into bedroom) * 600 sq ft is most comfortable for a couple celebrating their honeymoon or anniversary, however it does have a small second bedroom with a queen bed to accommodate an additional 2 guests if you don't mind sharing the living space. * Covered outdoor patio with a small table and sun chairs * Tropical garden with views of Haleakala on a clear day in the distance * Walk out the properties back gate to the coffee shop or small grocery * NO EV charging allowed IDEAL GUESTS: returning Maui visitors that want to experience something different than the resort sides of Maui. Or first time guests that want to experience Maui like a local resident away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas. We recommend first time guests split their time between 2 sides of the island to have the full island experience. Many guests stay with us to explore the North shore, Hana and Haleakala as we are in the ideal location to these beautiful wonders of maui. SECURITY CAMERAS: We have security Ring cameras on the property to monitor each front door, the driveway entrance and back gate to our property. We use these to monitor our property when it is vacant, verify contactless checkin/checkout and during late night hours if needed 11pm-5am. We respect our guests and have camera notifications turned off during your stay except during late night hours or in an emergency. The 3 cameras on property are located in visible places that are outside in the front yards facing directions that would not compromise privacy during your stay. See our house handbook during your stay for more information. This is a legal vacation rental, Maui County B&B permit Approved. Our B&B permit allows 4 guests total to occupy our cottage, no exceptions. See HOUSE RULES for more details on the following: NO LAUNDRY ACCESS NO A/C NO ANIMALS NO VISITORS / UNREGISTERED GUESTS NO SMOKING / DRUGS NO PARTIES - QUIET HOURS Guests are renting the entire Haiku Surf Cottage for their stay. And have use of 2 cottage parking spots and a semi-private yard. You will have access to walk thru our properties yard to go thru our back gate to walk to the coffee shop. NOTE: We have a motion activated camera on our cottage front porch monitoring the front door and driveway entrance. We use this to verify self checkin and monitor our home when vacant. The camera is turned off after your arrival and during your stay. We have a motion activated camera on our lower house that monitors the main driveway in and out of our property. It is always on and does not face any private areas. We are available to answer questions and help make your stay enjoyable anytime thru Airbnb portal and attend to your needs as they come up. If we are off island during your stay, we have a property manager that is always available if onsite needs arise. Otherwise, your privacy will be respected so you can enjoy our home like it is your own. Nestled in the quiet town of Haiku, famous Hookipa Beach and the nearby local towns of Paia and Makawao are 15 mins away to explore. Our Cottage is perfect for returning Maui guests or for visitors splitting their stay between the south/west shores and north/east shores. You will live among other local residents where life is slower and more relaxed. Many guests stay here to explore the North Shore, Hana and Haleakala as the cottage is in the ideal location to these beautiful wonders of maui. WILD ROOSTERS: Maui used to harvest sugarcane on island as their main crop source. They introduced chickens and roosters to the island to protect their crops from bugs. However the sugarcane industry is no longer which resulted in freeing the chickens to fend for themselves and in turn created an ever growing wild chicken and rooster population all over the island. If you visit in Spring season (March - June) we say this is rooster / chicken season on island as this seems to be when they populate and appear in our neighborhoods the most as the plants and fruit blooms. Usually the locals try to catch the roosters and relocate them out of our neighborhood to open land. However, you may hear wild roosters early morning that can be heard in our homes as usually we have the windows open. We provide earplugs in our home, if this is a bother to you, for this reason. We are located on the north shore in the town of Haiku, on the island of Maui. Closest airport is Kahului, Maui (OGG) approx. 20-30 minutes away. You will need to rent a car during your stay, The nearest bus stop is 1.8 miles down the road at the Haiku Cannery which is not an easy or safe walk as there are no sidewalks or street lights in our area. Since we are not in a tourist area, Taxi's, Uber or Lyft do not frequent our area regularly, therefore we do not recommend this for your main transportation. However if you choose to use one of these transportation services, make sure to plan ahead of time to make sure it is available for your time requested. OUR NORTH SHORE OF MAUI: (located 1 hour from the fire area, on the opposite side of the island. Not effected by the fires) We like to let guests know that we are located on the non-touristy side of the island. All sides of maui are quite different and each season is different on each side of the island as well. Our north shore is great for adventurous guests looking for a quiet getaway in a local residence, while exploring the surrounding towns and north shore of maui. Our surrounding small towns are great for shopping and getting lunch or early dinner as shops close by 5pm and restaurants by 8:30-9pm. Unfortunately we don't have much night life to offer on our side of the island since mostly locals reside here. Our beaches on the north shore are known for surf waves and windsurfing- great for experienced surfers/windsurfers, people watching or sunbathing however many are not usually calm for swimming or snorkeling October thru May. For beginner surfers and all snorkelers we recommend a day trip to the south shore where you can rent surf boards/ snorkeling gear, get a surf lesson and the beaches have sandy bottoms where it is ideal for these activities. The North shore is located on the edge of the rainforest which makes our area beautifully green and lush this is because we get enough natural rain year round to keep everything green without watering systems. We do have seasons on island and during winter months you can expect more rain on the north shore. We also get natural tradewinds year round that usually keeps our north shore 5-10 degrees cooler than the tourist sides of the island and cools down our evening temps, which is a blessing. Our warmest months are usually June through October, where we can get the warmer temps, high of 80-90 degrees F and evenings 70-75 degrees F. In the winter months we usually do not get colder temps than 65 degrees F rarely, therefore our north shore homes were not built with air conditioning or heating systems, just ceiling fans and windows to self regulate our homes inside temperature. It is good to remember though that Maui is a tropical island, so our temperatures are humid and an average high of 75-85 degrees F. When you first arrive on island our temperatures can feel warmer than what you are used to at home until you get acclimated to the weather. So we like to mention if you live in air conditioning at your house and like your home on the cooler side then our place may not be a good fit for you. Your stay is important to us and we want to make sure your vacation expectations are met while on island. If you are looking to experience what it is like to live in traditional home in a local Maui neighborhood and explore the island, we are in a great location to do that. However if being close to calm beaches, night life and where more action is, we actually recommend guests stay in Kihei or Wailea on the south shore of maui. These areas are in the best locations on island for weather and the Maui experience you have seen in magazines and movies. In these areas you are close to everything and you can just do a day trip to the north shore to check it out. We give you this information as we want you to have the best visit to the islands!
