Fox River Country House
This charming, 19th-century farmhouse offers spacious, retreat-style living, inside and out, with exclusive access to twenty-plus acres of protected Land & Water Reserve property on the Fox River. Family owned and operated, this historic farmhouse is just minutes from local attractions, including Skydive Chicago, historic village of Norway, Dayton Bluffs, and Starved Rock State Park. Four bedrooms, two baths. Upstairs king bedroom with attached bath. Second full bath on first floor. One open and one screened porch with beautiful views and ample seating. Abundant yard space, fire ring/firewood, hiking trails to river and back. Please note: FRCH offers a “digitally off-grid” experience—no WiFi, but cell service is generally reliable depending on carrier and time of year. Park-like meadows and woods just steps from house. Great for picnics, short strolls, long hikes. Direct, private access to trails through old-growth forest and along riverbank. Stunning views of historic Indian Island and sandstone cliffs. Your friendly host lives down the road on the farm and is available to answer questions and help out as needed. I support Airbnb's nondiscrimination policy and welcome everyone, no matter who they are, where they come from, how they worship, or whom they love. Driving times: Skydive Chicago (10-15 mins), Starved Rock State Park or Matthiessen State Park (30 mins), Buffalo Rock State Park (25 mins), Dayton Bluffs Preserve (10- 15 mins), Ottawa (15 mins), Norway Store (10 mins). Train station (Chicago Metra and Amtrak) in Joliet, Illinois, about 40 minutes (30 miles) east of Fox River Country House. This updated, adorable farmhouse retains its original 19th-century feel. Guests should be aware of narrow staircases. Large-screen TV in LR and small-screen in twin room equipped with DVD players only (sorry, no cable/satellite, but a sizable DVD library!). Cell phone reception is generally reliable but can be spotty at times out here in the woods. No onsite WiFi. Fox River Country House is situated on a protected conservation easement (now officially an Illinois Land & Water Reserve). Bring your camera—wide variety of birds, animals, trees, and flowers. This is a working farm, so the host may on occasion pass through the barnyard to access tools or machinery. Guest privacy (and peace and quiet) guaranteed.
