Steps to MoCA near SKI private house + SAUNA!
20-30 mins to Jiminy Peak, East Mountain, Prospect Ski. 50 mins to Mount Snow. Tucked away on a hilltop oasis right above MoCA (3 mins by walk) the whimsically restored house is part of an private estate that belonged to the owners of APW factory (now the museum). Steps to downtown & restaurants. 10 min drive to Williams & Clark. Now part of a retreat for immigrant & refugee musicians: your stay enables us to host artists pro bono. The Gardener’s Cottage is part of a historic estate in the heart of North Adams. Located on a privately owned hilltop we are about a 3 minute walk to Mass MoCA, steps to restaurants and galleries. For skiers, we are about 20-30 minutes by car from Jiminy Peak, Berkshire East, 45-50 mins from Mount Snow. The advantage of staying in North Adams is of course the better food options plus museums, antiquing, thrifting, etc. This house has three bedrooms upstairs, downstairs is a living room with a piano, a separate dining room, a full bathroom with a claw foot soaking tub, a study/fourth bedroom (with a couch that opens up into a queen size bed) and a kitchen/pantry equipped with a full-size fridge, oven/stove, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and all cooking and dining essentials. We provide (nice) espresso beans. Private parking is available for several cars. Fast wifi. The house is a 2 story Cape Code style period New England home with a centered chimney and multiple windows letting light in from all four directions, as well as 2 outdoor porches. We have several other listings available within the estate, so if you require more flexibility with dates, don’t hesitate to contact us—between the listings we are often able to accommodate beyond what the booking calendar suggests. Detailed Layout: Upstairs level bedrooms (with built-in closets; can each accommodate 1-2) Large blue (master) bedroom (queen) with a walk-in closet Medium sized green bedroom (full) Smaller “Ukrainian” bedroom: trundle (two twin beds) Downstairs: Living room (with a tuned piano, real chimney, and faux fire-place) Kitchen and pantry (with two additional separate entrances from front and back porches) Separate dining room (table for 4 that can be expanded to 8) Large windowed bathroom (features an original and fully functional 1873 Victorian bathtub with claw feet) Office with a pullout couch (queen) The house is entirely private. Guests have access to the grounds of the estate (about 2.5 acre), containing multiple points of vantage, several outdoor fire-pits as well as a private outdoor wood-fired Finnish sauna. We are a friendly community of artists and musicians. Since we operate as an artist retreat we do have a 24/7 caretaker on the property and are happy to assist in person with any question! Freeman Grove historic district is one of North Adams’ oldest neighborhoods, mostly known as the location of Mass MoCA, Porches Inn, Uno Park and Sanford & Kid Antiques. There is private parking next to the house and elsewhere in the hill. It is a very short walk to the museum (3 minutes), downtown restaurants and galleries (5 minutes) and even hiking trails (10-15 minutes). Just a friendly reminder we are strictly a no-shoes, no smoking and no pet household, we appreciate your help in keeping the house beautiful and clean for all our guests and musicians. Another note: the neighboring cottage (Caretaker’s Cottage) is occupied by our sound engineer Bill who lives there with his several well behaved cats. If you see the cats on the property outdoors it is ok to pet them, but please do not feed them as they have very particular dietary requirements. Thank you!
