The Cloran Mansion was built in 1880. The Cloran Mansion is part of the historic fabric of Galena. Designed in the style of Italianate architecture, the Cloran stands as a unique building in Galena. John Cloran, an Irish immigrant, owned a grocery store in town and built the house on a 250-acre farm in 1880. Today it's open for all to enjoy! You will have access to your own room on the second floor of the mansion, a common space with a Keurig coffee machine, tea, cookies, ice, a microwave, popcorn, and a DVD collection of 700 movies. You will also have access to our dining room and 1.5 acres of property complete with a screened-in gazebo, a koi pond, a firepit, and beautiful gardens. We will check you in upon arrival, show you common spaces and your room, answer any questions we can, and give you the space you need. Galena is an historic town that was once the home of President U.S. Grant. It also was the world's leading producer of lead in the mid-nineteenth century, creating a boom that gave rise to beautiful mansions and stunning architecture. Today it offers blocks of restaurants and shops, scenic views, plenty of trails, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, a world-class magic show in an intimate theater, tours of distilleries, vineyards, and historic homes like the one belonging to Grant, and a host of ghost walks. It is also 15 minutes from the Mississippi River. The Cloran Mansion, built in 1880, is part of Galena's history and is located on 1.5 acres of land -- close enough to Galena's action, but far enough to relax and enjoy.
