Walk to end of George Ryder Rd South, take a left and then a right and continue to the end of the cul-de-sac. There is a neighborhood easement path through small patch of wood onto Cranberry lane. Don’t worry about sign that says “Cranberry lane association only”, we have legal passage to the beach. You can walk either right or left on the lane, it meets up to a single lane that takes you to main road where you take a left and it will take you down to the Parking lot. Ridgevale has a Café and store that sells beach items. It serves lunch food, ice cream and coffee. Beach is wonderful for families because it has an inlet from the ocean, causing a shallow stream where children can safely play in the water. 2. HARDINGS BEACH: Short Driving distance. Go out to Rt 28, take a right and then the first right onto Barn Hill road (right after Ship Ahoy plaza). Follow signs to parking lot. It is a quintessential Cape Cod beach, supposedly the nicest in Chatham. We always park in the second parking lot. You can walk for quite some distance to the lighthouse. 3. LIGHTHOUSE BEACH: Drive through town and take a right at the end of Rt 28 and go until you see the light house, beach to the right. This is a beautiful spot to stop and see the views. You can park for ½ hour right there, but otherwise there is no paid parking, unless you got a weekly pass. You have to continue driving pass the beach, turning right in the bend where the road divides and follow thet road. There is limited parking on the left side of the road. Water at the beach in much cooler than at Ridgevale or Hardings Beach. 4. MONOMOY RESERVATION: If you take a slight left instead of right at the bend where road forks from Lighthouse beach it will take you to the reservation (follow road and it will eventually guide you). There is free parking there and it is a wonderful place to take a hike with family and use the natural beach area where you can swim in the ocean. 5. NORTH CHATHAM BEACHES: Driving across Rt 28 from the house, onto George Ryder Road, leading to Airport (passed Ocean state lot). Pass the airport and turn left onto Old Queen Anne road and first right onto Training Field road. It will take you down to Rt. 28 (RT 28 loops around Chatham, you crossed over to Rt 28 going north). Take a left on RT 28, going north (if you go right it will take you back into Chatham). You will get to Pleasant Bay where you can park along the road, or there is small gravel road leading down to a natural parking area. If you continue on Rt 28 north it will take you to Orleans. 6. OYSTER POND: Center in Chatham. Driving into Chatham, when getting to traffic light where CVS and Chatham Village Market, turn off to the right, Pond road as you would go to the grocery store. Follow road until you see the Pond. Parking can be difficult so parking in one of big parking lots in town and walking to the pond makes most sense. 7. SCHOOL HOUSE POND: Fresh water pond and favorite with children. Take left on Rt 28, go about ½ mile down and take right onto George Ryder road, travel about 1 ½ mile and follow signs to the pond. 8. WHITE POND: On the bike path going towards Chatham. Great swimming pond and often very quiet. Small beach area. Also accessible by car with free parking. Take right onto Rt 28, go down about 1 mile, by Agway, take a left onto Old Queen Anne road. Follow for about ½ mile and where signs for Bike path (by a pedestrian/bike cross over) take a right onto Wilfred road and follow until you see parking on the left. CHATHAM ACTIVITIES FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY: 1. Friday nights old fashion Band Concert in the center of town at the Bandstand, across from the Squire restaurant. Put a blanket or tarp ( can use one from Garage) after 9am to reserve a spot. July through August. Very popular for the whole family. Bring a Picknick!! 2. Cape Cod Kid’s activity booklet as well as other booklets are available at several merchants (Closest would be Larry’s PX, breakfast restaurant in Ship Ahoy plaza on Rt 28) or at the Chamber of Commerce office on Mainstreet (small wooden building on right side when entering town). 3. BIKE PATH: Cross over Rt 28 to George Ryder road (going to airport) Right after passing Ocean State Work Lot, you will see entrance to the Bike path on your right side. It will take you into town and you will find Bike maps along the way for further assistance. If you go further up on George Ryder Road, you can enter bike trail on left side of road going towards Harwich. 4. CHILLERS SNOW CONES: Ship Ahoy plaza, corner of Rt 28 and Barn Hill road (take at right onto Rt 28 from our road). Favorite of children. 5. FISH PIER: every afternoon around 4-6pm, boats arrive loaded with fish that gets unloaded. Lots of seals gather to catch some scraps. At end of Rt 28 (Main street) going through Town take a left on Shore drive, pass Chatham Bars and Inn until sign for the pier on right hand side. 6. GO CARTS and TRAMPOLINES: fun on cloudy days.
