Barbara's Guest House
Entire house, all to yourself. A calm neighborhood oasis but close to town, surrounded by trees, a huge lawn and plenty of Door County air! Enjoy your coffee on the sunny porch swing with a peek of the Bay. Or, spend the afternoon in the private backyard while warming up the grill. A short stroll takes you into town to enjoy shops and restaurants. Four blocks takes you right down to the water! In the evenings cozy up to the gas fireplace in the living room or fire pit in the backyard. This is a home more than a vacation house. When we are here, we live here. So you should expect the lived in nature of a home rather than the more generic qualities of a vacation house. Jennifer is your local host, but Stephen is always available for questions as well. First floor: The front porch features a delightful porch swing with a peek of the Bay down the street and surrounded by a vast lawn. A great place for morning coffee or reading in the afternoon. A beautiful large double living room with a new gas fireplace. A large eat-in kitchen. Library with large dining table. Laundry room and half bath on the first floor. Upstairs: 3 bedrooms, 1 queen and 2 full-size beds and a full bathroom with tub and shower. Downstairs, a large couch becomes a roomy sofa bed. Backyard: Before heading out, lounge in the large fenced in backyard while making plans for the grill and a nice wood burning fire pit after dinner. Exploring: Take a short walk to explore the many shops and restaurants on Third Ave. Or stroll the four quiet blocks straight down to the waterfront. A walk over the Oregon St. bridge provides a spectacular view of the Steel Bridge and the shipyard beyond. Close to whatever you need. Accessible to everything Door County has to offer. Features: For staying in there is also an Espresso machine with steamer and board games including Chess, Backgammon, Scrabble, Yahtzee, Monopoly, Rummikub, Listography, Apples to Apples, and Trivial Pursuit. Enjoy all while sitting privately in the backyard! Or stay in and enjoy a movie on the DVD player or music on the CD player. Netflix is also available. Watch what you want! Garage - is available for one car. If needed, contact the manager for the automatic door access code. Nice to have in the winter months as overnight street parking is restricted Dec. 1 - Apr. 1 for snow clearing. (If dates appear unavailable, please inquire anyway. Some dates may be flexible. Pets are allowed on a case-by-case basis. Entirely up to the manager's discretion.) Fire pit notes: While there may be some wood to start with, please plan on supplying your own wood - available almost everywhere. Of course if conditions are dry, fire pit use will be restricted. Guests are able to access all open areas of the house and yards. (The basement and one small upstairs room are currently off limits.) Jennifer is the Manager in town available to answer any questions or for help. Stephen is the Owner available by phone / text / email. The convenience of a great small town with easy access to all of Door County. Historic Sturgeon Bay is a real town with a real main street - Third Avenue. It is also the gateway to the rest that all Door County has to offer. You are in a quiet neighborhood, a short walk from Downtown. The Third Avenue Playhouse, all the great shops, great restaurants and watering holes are a stroll away. Walk along the shore of the Bay just four blocks down from the front of the house with views across the bay (Sawyer), and the Oregon St. bridge with the Historic Steel Bridge just beyond. From the Oregon St. bridge, enjoy a great view in both directions while heading to the other side (Sawyer) for more eateries, shops or our fantastic maritime museum. A short drive gets you quickly to supermarkets and a movie theater, yet both the Green Bay and Lake Michigan sides of the Door County peninsula are equally accessible. I will also provide a guide to my personally recommended favorite spots to explore - around town and up the entire Door County Peninsula. A car is highly recommended. Parking is available directly out front. However there is plenty to do on foot if someone has to take the car out for a bit. A garage is available if needed. Please contact Jennifer for the code. Street parking is restricted from Dec. 1 to Apr. 1, so it comes in handy. Cabs: No Uber, but we do have a terrific cab company. Airbnb takes care of WI State Tax. For bookings after 1-1-2020, it will include a 5.5% Door County occupancy tax. This supports Door County tourism efforts by directly going to the communities.
