"Hound Dog Heaven" is a custom built, mountain top cabin surrounded by miles of tranquility with the best mountain views in Western North Carolina due its 4,000' elevation. Features include all modern amenities: internet, 5 appliances & a well apportioned kitchen, large screened-in porch for dining and lounging, big screen tv with Dish TV access, outdoor fire pit & charcoal bar-b-que, and 2 bathrooms... one full bath and one 1/2 bath. An AWD drive vehicle is recommended, especially in Winter. Internet access is now available with Hughes Net Gen 5 (beginning April 10, 2022) Cabin is located at approx. 4,000 feet elevation in the Alarka Community of Bryson City, NC, right beside the Alarka Highlands Community. Because we're in the mountains, we do not have street lights, and the last 2 1/2 miles of your drive to the cabin is on a narrow, gravel road in a heavily wooded area, so it gets very dark at night. For that reason, we suggest that first time guests check-in before dark, although we will try to accommodate all check-in timing to the best of our ability. (Unfortunately, we are unable to refund money if you cannot find us after dark and have to stay in motel or hotel in town until sunrise.) We like to make all guests aware of the rugged roads, but are happy to say a 4WD vehicle is not mandatory to reach the cabin. You will have full and private access to the entire property which includes large screened in porch with view, a stone patio and fire pit on both sides of the house with view, and a large, full sun front deck for sunning and star gazing. any hiking trails are available within the Swain County area. Many outdoor recreation & commercial attractions are within a short distance drive. Attractions include Nantahala Outdoor Center for white water rafting & ziplining at approx. 18 miles away, Deep Creek National Park for hiking & river tubing, Tsali Cycle Center & Tap Room in downtown Bryson City for mountain biking and custom outdoor day trips, Fontana Dam and The Dragon at approx. 28 miles away, Cherokee, NC, with Harrah's Casino, Unto These Hills (outdoor Cherokee drama about history of the Cherokee Tribe), Oconluftee Cherokee Living Museum, the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain Forest and the visitor's center with the Mountain Farm Museum are all approx. 20 miles away, and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, downtown Bryson City (with several signature breweries and many boutique dining spots), and Deep Creek Forest with hiking trails, waterfalls and the river for tubing are only approx. 13 miles away. There are countless other attractions including Dollywood, downtown Sylva, etc. all of which are very close. The area around Hound Dog Heaven is a fairly rugged, small neighborhood with four other houses. Although all houses are separated by ridges with lots of trees allowing for almost complete sound proofing and full privacy, the other four house are occupied by a combination of home owners and year round tenants. Therefore, we are a quiet community consisting of all adults, and a couple of mountain dogs who are very social and have the run of the mountain. We ask all guests to respect quiet hours between 10pm and 9am, each day of the week. There is no close, public transportation. All guests must rely solely on personal transportation. VERY IMPORTANT: We may accept your dog with your reservation, however, we ask that we discuss your pet and its needs prior to booking. We like to ensure your pet's needs can be met with the challenges and location of a mountain top cabin. With Verizon and a few other national cell phone providers, you will have a good cell phone connection, but small, local providers are not reliable.
