Just 5 miles from Cape Charles and 30 minutes from Virginia Beach, our contemporary Guesthouse gives you the peace and solitude characteristic of the Eastern Shore along with the convenience of being close to urban centers. Our twenty acre waterfront farm, which has plenty of nearby walking or biking, and a dock onto a secluded arm of Plantation Creek, an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay, is perfect for solo travelers, couples or small families looking for a memorable trip to the Eastern Shore. Built in 2017, our 900 sq ft guest house is separated from the main house by a 6-foot covered breezeway, and has its own parking area and entrance. It has one bedroom with a king bed, a common living room with 2 fold-out twin beds, two full bathrooms (one with a tub and one with a walk-in shower), a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room, a TV room, and a screened-in back porch. It is most comfortable for couples, solo travelers, and small families. We want our guests to feel free to explore our farm and there are no areas that are off limits. You are invited to help yourself to whatever is growing in our family's vegetable garden, to interact with our friendly farm animals, and wander the vineyard. In addition to the animals, garden, orchard, and vineyard there are beautiful woods to explore bordering Plantation Creek, an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay. A short path from the guesthouse to the woods leads past a fire ring stocked with wood, to our dock and hammock platform. The tidal swing is 3 to 4 feet, so we have plenty of water at high tide but the water ebbs completely out at very low tides. Both scenarios have their own beauty and offer great bird and wildlife viewing. There are miles of nearly car-free walking or biking in the immediate vicinity, and you will find a walking map to the surrounding areas in the house manual. Most of the time we are able to greet our guests when they arrive to help get them settled in if needed, answer any questions they might have, and give our favorite local recommendations on the area. If everyone is away at the time of your arrival, or if you arrive late at night we ask that you see yourself in and make yourself at home. There is a House Manual in the guesthouse which includes information about the guesthouse, and our recommendations of places to go and things to do in the area. We want our guests to have all the space and privacy they want during their stay, but we're available nearby for any issues or needs that may arise. Down our quiet, dirt road you will find more deer and wild turkeys than people. There are no other homes, roads, or even telephone wires visible from the homesite. Here you can enjoy the peace and nature that the Eastern Shore of Virginia has to offer, all while being only a few miles from the town of Cape Charles. Cape Charles is a charming, family-friendly beach town offering calm and shallow waters perfect for small children, two harbors, a fishing pier, world class golfing, great kite boarding, cute shops, waterfront dining and spectacular sunsets over the Chesapeake Bay. It has a brewery, distillery, craft cider and some of the best ice cream in the world! Getting off of the beaten path, you can discover the greater Eastern Shore of Virginia, a place rich with history, culture, and seafood! There are many seaside villages, beaches and natural areas to experience. Kayak to a winery, take the ferry to Tangier Island, or go see Misty of Chincoteague and the wild ponies on Assateague Island. We love this place that our family has called home for hundreds of years, and are happy to help steer you to the right places according to your interests, and answer any questions you might have. Guests have their own drive and parking area at the guesthouse. There is ample room for boat trailers. Due to the size of the cottage, it is suitable for at most two adults and three children at one time. As a small farm we have a few animals, including chickens, goats, a couple barn cats, and a friendly Great Pyrenees dog named Lampo. No animals ever set foot in the cottage, so allergy sufferers don't need to worry. The cell service on our farm is excellent for Verizon and At&T, and your internet connected devices such as phones, and tablets should have no problem accessing the internet and streaming movies, should you use one of these carriers. We have the best WiFi available for our area via a Verizon Hotspot. It works great for work applications, can be a bit slow at times for streaming movies. Our flat screen TV is connected to a digital antenna that receives over 30 crystal clear local channels, including many major networks. There's also a DVD player with a collection of movies to pick through, along with some reading material and board games for rainy days. There is a selection of children's toys and books as well. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking and dining, and we keep it stocked with tea and coffee, and some staples like salt and pepper, oil, etc. Our area's grocery store, Food Lion, is a quick 5 minute drive from our house. We have delicious filtered well water that is fine to drink straight from the tap. The house is equipped with children's dinnerware and utensils, and there is a high chair available upon request. The master bedroom and 2 pull-out twin beds in the common area are furnished with clean sheets, a comforter, and pillows. We also have bedding for the couch in TV room if need be. There is a portable crib available at your request. Both bathrooms are stocked with towels, soap, shampoo, and other essentials. There is a hair dryer in the master bath. The laundry room is stocked with detergent and other laundry supplies. There is an iron and small ironing board in the closet. Here you will find the beach towels available for your use. We also have a pair of beach chairs, a beach umbrella, and a small cooler for guests. Our guest cottage is 5 miles from both Cape Charles to the North and Kiptopeke State Park to the South, and just a 30 minute drive to Virginia Beach. The Norfolk International Airport is a 45 minute drive from our house. We are about an hour away from Chincoteague and Assateague Islands.
