If you’re looking for a spacious place to stay near downtown with all the amenities, the “Riverfront Retreat” is for you. Located in the trendy Wells Street Corridor, walking distance to Downtown, Promenade Park, the River Greenway trail, and the Landing, this home was fully renovated in 2019 with your needs in mind. Our guests often comment on how close the home is to local amenities, the super comfortable king-size bed, and how spacious it is. Find a walkthrough on IG @RiverfrontRetreat. The home features a comfortable living room, spacious dining room with seating for 4, brand new fully-stocked kitchen with large island, 2 bedrooms, and 1 full bathroom. We have a super simple checkout, so you can pack up and be on your way! If you have no time/desire to read everything, here the 3 most important things to know before you book: 1) There is a staircase to access the bedrooms, and it's rather steep. This shouldn't be an issue for people of average mobility. The bathroom is located on the first level and the bedrooms are on the second. 2) We are a strict no smoking or vaping house. There is a smoker’s pole in the backyard. 3) The house is located in an urban setting and the neighborhood is transitional. After 200 guests, we have never had an issue with car break-ins, guest harassment, or any other guest-targeted crime. It's a wonderful neighborhood, but definitely not a suburb. Our neighbors are kind, keep to themselves, and expect our guests to do the same. (Find more info under "Location") DRIVING TIME TO LOCATIONS: The Landing - 3 min Paper Mill on the Landing - 3 min Headwaters Park - 3 min Library & Genealogy Center - 3 min Grand Wayne - 4 min Parkview Field - 4 min Baker Street Station - 5 min Embassy Theatre - 5 min Zoo - 5 min SportONE Fieldhouse - 6 min SportONE Icehouse - 6 min Coliseum - 8 min Clyde Theatre - 8 min Purdue Fort Wayne - 9 min Ceruti’s (Illinois Rd) - 10 min Sweetwater Sound - 11 min Ceruti’s (Innovation Blvd) - 13 min Airport - 17 min (These times are from our property to these locations, according to the internet.) 3 blocks from the River Greenway trail for walking, running, and biking. 4 blocks from an accessible kayak launch that's open to the public. PRIMARY BEDROOM: The primary bedroom has a king-size bed with down alternative comforter, dresser, and 2 closets. Each nightstand is equipped with a lamp and charging station. There is a white noise machine, remote-controlled standing fan, and blackout curtains. It is very dark and quiet, and guests RAVE about how comfortable the bed is. SECOND BEDROOM: The second bedroom features a double bed, dresser, closet, and space for a double air mattress or pack-n-play (provided by us with prior notice). The nightstand has a white noise machine, lamp, and charging station. There is also a desk and standing fan. KITCHEN: The beautiful new kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, full refrigerator, brand new dishwasher, microwave, and coffee station. We've stocked the cabinets with everything you'll need to whip up a home-cooked meal, with space left over to store your own items. We don't have specialty appliances like a blender or crockpot, but we've got pots, pans, measuring cups, whisks, olive oil, and glasses for beer, wine, and champagne! We provide ground coffee and tea bags, sugar, honey, and creamer, along with a coffee grinder if you'd like to bring (or buy) your own beans. KIDS: We're kid-friendly with a pack-n-play, kids' toys and books, high chair, step stool, potty seat, and kids' plates, utensils, and cups. There is a playground located on the north side of Promenade Park, and the Kids Canal is a big hit in the summer (bring bathing suits!). AMENITIES: We have 150 mbps wifi. A Smart TV with Netflix logged in and ready for you to use, or feel free to log into your own streaming services. Free washer and dryer with name-brand dye-free, scent-free detergent. Board games, playing cards, plus a book of dining and activity recommendations, maps, and brochures. PARKING: There is free street parking right outside the house. We do not offer off-street parking, and parking in the yard isn't allowed. The guests will have private access to the entire house, along with the front porch and back yard (small concrete patio and a couple of chairs with a smoker's pole). There is one locked closet in the dining room that we use as storage and a locked basement in the laundry room. We live a quick 4 minute drive from the house, and can be reached any time during your stay for questions or emergencies. Other than that, you're free to check yourself in and out, and come and go as you please. You won't see us unless you need us! You'll be just 2 blocks from the brand new Promenade Park - part of Fort Wayne's Riverfront development. The park features a bar and cafe, state-of-the-art playground, tree canopy walking path, kayak and bike rentals, trail access, and a creek-style water feature for kids to play in during warmer months. The park has been a nonstop hit since the day it opened, and has received national media attention. Promenade Park also designates the north edge of the DORA (designated outdoor refreshment area), which means you can grab a drink at Promenade and carry it with you throughout most of downtown. (This is new in 2024!) Cut through Promenade Park, and you'll hit the Landing - a brand new development featuring a pedestrian street, murals, restaurants, and shops. Just beyond the Landing is the rest of Downtown. As for the Wells Street Corridor, it's an exciting mix of new and old businesses and restaurants. The house is 1 block from a popular mexican restaurant (Don Chavas). A bit further up, you'll find a charming used book store (Hyde Brothers), a classic diner (Klemm's), a hip new plant shop (Honey Plant), an outstanding brunch joint (Ophelia’s), and a quirky Army supply store (GI Joe's). The house is just minutes from a wonderful brewery as well (Hop River). There is an empty growler in the kitchen for you to borrow! The house is situated directly across from an elementary school, so you’ll hear school kids playing during the week. We have a whole list of our favorite places to grab a bite or drink in the house manual. Please note that the house is located in an urban setting. This means there is quite a bit of foot traffic and car traffic going by the house during the day. Like any non-suburban neighborhood, there can be crime and people who make you feel uncomfortable. We recommend being aware of your surroundings after dark and not leaving valuables in your car. We have a camera on the front and back porch that is always recording, for the safety of our guests. We don’t say this to scare anyone away, because it’s a wonderful location, but some guests may not be used to this type of setting. After 200+ guests, we have never had an issue with car break-ins, guest harassment, or any other guest-targeted crime. Please book if you love the the house and want to be close to downtown amenities and can overlook a “transitional” neighborhood. Our neighbors are kind, keep to themselves, and expect our guests to do the same. The house is located in an extremely walkable part of town. You’re a 3-10 minute walk from a handful of amazing restaurants, and just 3 blocks from the brand new Promenade Park. Cut through the park and you'll be in the heart of Downtown Fort Wayne (10 minute walk). We have Uber and Lyft as well. The house is located approximately 20 minutes from the Fort Wayne International Airport. On the north side of Promenade Park is Fort Wayne Outfitters where you can rent bikes for the day. There are 2 security cameras outside the home: 1 above the front door and 1 above the back door. The front door is equipped with a smart lock that uses a keypad. We’ll supply guests with enough disposable products to get them through the first 2-4 days. This includes toilet paper, paper towels, dish tabs, dish soap, coffee, tea, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and Kleenex. Beyond that, guests are responsible for purchasing their own. It’s an old home with a poor vent system. In the summer, the upstairs feels about 5 degrees warmer than the downstairs. We have a Nest thermostat that allows our guests to turn the air conditioning down to 66 in the summer and up to 75 in the winter, and provide standing fans for each bedroom. There is a $250 fee for smoking of any kind inside the home.
