The cottage circa 1802 offer a peaceful private setting on a historic horse farm once part of Monticello with close proximity to wineries (10 minutes), town (12 minutes), Rivanna River borders the property, Carter mountain (8 minutes) and many other activities. A "Jimmy Buffet" salt water pool complex has a private Jacuzzi for each unit, double bars, two fire pits, frig ,full bath/shower/changing room) There is a private lake (catch and release fishing) and many places to walk on the property. Magical setting for watching wildlife like the bald eagles soaring down the river, multiple deer grazing in the fields, geese and ducks floating on the lake, or Great Blue Heron trying to catch lunch. Once on the farm you do not see any close neighbors (cottage is near main house, but situated to maximize privacy), unless you count looking up at the distant hillside to Monticello(see photo). The cottage is circa 1802 and previously owned by Thomas Jefferson and was once part of Monticello and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The only private home in the United States so deisgnated. The whistle or light rumbling of the distant train across the river can be heard on occasion. You can walk down to the rivers edge and sit on a large bolder watching the occasion kayakers floating down the river(or bring your own). James Monroe's home is only 10 minutes away, along with 14 wineries and 15 beer or cider breweries within 10 miles of the farm. There are hiking trails on the farm and adult tire swings for your use. Feel free to bring your bikes or kayaks with you. No one will bother them at the farm and you will make good use of them in the area. Additionally I own another farm with 1100 acres about 15 minutes from Auburn Hill farm with extensive roads, trials and a large 13 acre lake which guest can use if requested. I have owned a hotel and travel a lot, so tried to be thoughtful on the issues that bothered me when living out of a suitcase or backpack. Welcome feedback to correct any I missed or did not think of when remodeling the cottage for guests. Please contact me during your stay with any concerns or questions. There are boxes of artifacts (also many highlighted around the property) that I can make available if there is any interest in the farm or surrounding area history...,kick back and enjoy your stay. Each cottage is separate and share the other facilities, except each has private hot tub for it's exclusive use. If guests want to socialize will be glad to engage because I enjoy meeting new people and offering suggestions fo replacing to dine, wineries, and other activities. Many guests have described the property like a cottage stay at small exclusive resort or staying at an exclusive boutique hotel. James Monroe's home is only 10 minutes away, along with 14 wineries and 15 beer and cider breweries within 10 miles of the farm. It is a working farm so there will be help around the farm to keep it well groomed for visitors. Guests also have access to an 1100 acre farm about 14 minutes away from cottage with two lakes (14 & 3 acres) along with about 6 miles of hiking and biking trails.
